Role Overview

The General Sales Manager – South will be responsible for driving the sales strategy, revenue growth, and market share expansion for the Orthopaedics business across the Southern India region (Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and surrounding markets).

This senior leadership role requires strong business acumen, deep understanding of the medtech/orthopaedics market, and a proven ability to lead large commercial teams while collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders (marketing, supply chain, regulatory, and clinical affairs).

Key Responsibilities

Strategic & Business Leadership

Develop and execute the regional sales strategy aligned with national business objectives and annual operating plans.

Deliver top-line revenue, market share, and profitability targets for the Orthopaedics portfolio.

Identify emerging market trends, competitive dynamics, and new business opportunities.

Partner with marketing to launch new products and solutions successfully in the region.

Team Leadership & People Development

Lead, coach, and mentor Regional Sales Managers, Territory Managers, and Key Account Managers.

Build a high-performance sales culture focused on customer centricity, compliance, and ethical selling practices.

Drive capability building in consultative selling, negotiation, and account management.

Key Account & Stakeholder Management

Strengthen strategic partnerships with surgeons, hospital chains, group purchasing organizations, and key opinion leaders (KOLs).

Support and negotiate large account contracts, tenders, and long-term agreements.

Work closely with Clinical and Medical Affairs to drive surgeon engagement, education, and clinical adoption.

Operational Excellence & Compliance

Ensure accurate sales forecasting, inventory management, and pricing governance.

Maintain full adherence to Johnson & Johnson’s Credo values, compliance policies, and industry regulations.

Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure delivery of business results.

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or equivalent preferred.

12–18+ years of progressive sales/commercial experience in medical devices/medtech, orthopaedics preferred.

Proven success in leading large, multi-level sales teams across diverse geographies.

Strong business planning, forecasting, and financial acumen.

Established relationships with surgeons, hospital administrators, and distributor networks in South India are a strong advantage.

Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder influencing skills.

Demonstrated ability to manage complexity and drive results in a highly competitive market.
