With the launch of our new veterinary clinics in early 2024, we are looking for a full-time (GA) Veterinary Assistant III to join our Healthcare Practice Team. What you'll do:
- Serve to support your practice team, setting the bar for providing high-level, competent veterinary support care and embodying the Chewy Vet Care culture to work collaboratively with your peers and deliver the pet parent WOW experience.
- Responsible for implementing the outlined policies and procedures, utilizing integrated technology, and delivering consistent and appropriate medical care within the given skill set.
- Perform Sr Veterinary Assistant skills to support practice veterinarians, including assistance with operating medical equipment (like lab, radiology, anesthesia, dental), monitoring sedated patients (non-anesthetic), running bloodwork and other diagnostic lab tests, and performing functions that require handling animal bodily fluids and tissues.
- Perform (GA) Veterinary Assistant III skills to support practice veterinarians, including resuscitate puppies post c-section, controlled substance logs/reconstitute medications, blood smears/in-house lab machines/prepping samples for cytology/reading slides, wound prep and bandaging, prepare surgical equipment/supplies, maintain proper operating room conduct and asepsis, calculations medication dose as directed by veterinarian, anesthesia recovery/patient discharge and complete surgery invoices, dentistry prophylaxis, taking full mouth dental x-rays, obtain and process pre-surgical diagnostics (ECG, bloodwork, etc.), give IM or IV injectables per DVM instruction, obtain, monitor accurate anesthetic vitals and levels as needed, assist with sterilely opening gloves, drapes, packs, and other surgical equipment, and sterilely assist during anesthesia.
- Demonstrate team support and care for others' work experiences.
- Understand and follow the practice's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Standards of Care (SOC)
- Review invoices with clients and manage client payments.
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with other team members, keeping veterinarians informed in real time on patient updates (in practice, at referral, and under home care)
- Be proficient using the PIMS and aid others on the team in their use of the technology.
- Act responsibly given the pharmacy holdings of the practice and maintain controlled substance logs.
- Assist practice manager with communicating on inventory needs.
- Clean workspaces after every patient or patient lab sample interaction.
- Participation in self-development courses and Chewy Vet Care required compliance training.
- Perform related duties and assignments as directed by management.
- May be required to work weekends, position may require some travel.
What you'll need:
- 5+ years of experience as a Veterinary Assistant in practice.
- Demonstrated ability to complete the veterinary assistant skills checklist for Sr Veterinary Assistant Level III.
- Successful completion of an accredited veterinary assistant program is preferred.
- Passionate about helping people and pets with empathy and excellent customer service focus.
- Strong ability to connect with clients and demonstrate empathy and compassion.
- Excellent verbal / written communication, observational, and analytical skills.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
Physical job requirements:
- Standing or walking up to 80% per shift.
- Frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
- Frequently lift up to 70 pounds using an optional team lift.
- Rarely lift greater than 70+ pounds using a team lift.
- Stand, push, pull, carry, squat, and kneel.

Skills Required
- 5+ years of experience as a Veterinary Assistant in practice
- Demonstrated ability to complete the Sr Veterinary Assistant Level III skills checklist
- Successful completion of an accredited veterinary assistant program
- Ability to assist with anesthesia, monitor anesthetic vitals, and perform anesthesia recovery
