At GFiber, our Finance team plays a critical part in setting up the company for future financial success, enabling the business to move fast, while playing in control.

Role Description

As our Controller, you will join Google Fiber at an exciting time. In this role, you’ll be pivotal in establishing all the systems and processes for our stand alone accounting, operational finance, tax, treasury, financial reporting, and other related functions. You’ll lead a team and vendor partners tasked with ensuring the functions’ accuracy, compliance, and efficiency, while delivering strategic insights, and providing a complete picture of GFiber’s financial health. Based on your prior experience, you’ll be able to create operational excellence, enabling the team to look at short and long term goals strategically and thoughtfully, making trade offs to deliver organizational priorities.

In this role, you'll:

Accounting & Financial Management:

  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, and general ledger activities.
  • Record, track and report on CapEx, fixed assets and cash flow
  • Prepare cash forecasts, and manage working capital effectively.
  • Implement and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure accurate financial reporting and to safeguard company assets.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and oversee the annual audit process.
  • Identify financial risks and implement strategies to mitigate them.
  • Establish, document, and maintain appropriate financial controls.

Financial Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and, as appropriate, SOX.
  • Conduct variance analysis and provide insights into financial performance.
  • Work with FP&A to present financial reports to senior management and stakeholders, highlighting key metrics and trends.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Closely collaborate with FP&A and key functional leads on the annual budgeting process.
  • Support the tracking of budget performance, analyze deviations, and recommend corrective actions as needed.

Strategic Support:

  • Provide financial insights and support strategic decision-making by senior management.
  • Analyze financial data to identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue growth.
  • Assist in fundraising activities, including preparing financial information required for investor materials.

At a minimum we'd like you to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
  • 20 years of experience in accounting or a related function
  • 5 years of experience as a Financial Controller, Chief Accounting Officer, or similar role in mid-sized companies 
  • 3 years experience at a major accounting firm.
  • Experience in business and system transformation, including the implementation and adoption of key systems, processes, and controls.
  • Expertise in accounting and controllership principles/regulations (GAAP/SOX) and the ability to apply them in the context of business needs.
  • Experience building, developing, and leading a team.

It's preferred if you have:

  • Experience working in a dynamic environment with the ability to self-prioritize. 
  • Experience in reporting, regulatory filings and SOX compliance at a public company.
  • Proficiency in financial management software (e.g., SAP, etc.) and advanced spreadsheet skills.
  • Ability to analyze financial statements, identify industry trends, conduct peer benchmarking analysis then present findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders written and verbally, clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to identify opportunities and/or deal with potential/existing customers/partners including communicating, collaborating, and proposing  strategies or solutions that recognize business needs.


The US base salary range for this full-time position is $235,000 - $324,000 + bonus + cash award + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
