The Role

The Role

We're hiring a Corporate Controller to own the integrity of Aplazo's books, close, reporting, and financial controls across the full group — operating entity, holdco, and securitization/warehouse SPVs. You'll run accounting, tax, technical accounting, payment ops accounting, financial systems, and controls, and act as the CFO's right hand on audit, capital markets, regulatory, and IPO readiness. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who has built and scaled a finance function in consumer lending or fintech, can speak the language of Risk and Capital Markets, and is actively using AI and automation to modernize how the close works.

What You'll Own

Close, Consolidation & Reporting

  • Monthly, quarterly, and annual close across all entities — operating co, holdco, trusts, and SPVs — with multi-entity, multi-currency consolidation.

  • Consolidated financials under US GAAP and Mexican GAAP (NIF), including the walk between them.

  • Management reporting for CFO, CEO, board, and audit committee; lender, trustee, and investor reporting packs.

  • Technical accounting memos and policies for new products, transactions, and standards adoption.

Credit, Lending & Revenue Accounting

  • Loan accounting end-to-end: origination, EIR, fees, interest accrual, modifications, servicing, charge-offs, recoveries.

  • CECL / ASC 326 allowance methodology, governance, and documentation — co-owned with Risk.

  • Securitization and transfer accounting (ASC 860), VIE consolidation analysis, and warehouse facility accounting.

  • Revenue recognition across merchant fees, MDR, interchange, late fees, and ancillary products (ASC 606).

Tax

  • Mexican tax compliance: ISR, IVA, transfer pricing, CFDIs, informative returns, and SAT audits and inquiries.

  • Tax coordination for the holdco and international structuring.

  • ASC 740 income tax provision, deferred taxes, and uncertain tax positions.

  • Reporting fiscal results and maintaining relationships with external tax advisors.

Treasury, Capital Markets & Investor Reporting

  • Accounting and reporting for warehouse facilities, securitizations, corporate debt, and any equity instruments.

  • Covenant calculations and lender reporting; trustee and servicer reports.

  • FX and interest rate hedge accounting; cash accounting across entities.

  • Finance workstream for capital raises, debt facilities, and M&A — diligence, data room, technical accounting.

Regulatory & Statutory

  • CNBV, Condusef, and other regulatory reporting requirements applicable to our regulated entities.

  • Statutory financial statements

  • Coordination with Legal and Compliance on entity structure, intercompany flows, and regulatory exams.

Payment Operations Accounting

  • Daily reconciliation of customer collections and merchant settlements to the GL.

  • Chargebacks, refunds, fraud loss, and merchant reserve accounting.

  • Partnership with Payment Ops, Engineering, and Product on ledger design and new payment flows.

Controls, Audit & IPO Readiness

  • Design and operate a SOX-ready ICFR environment; build the control library, evidence, and governance cadence.

  • Own external audit (Big 4) end-to-end, statutory audits, warehouse lender audits, and SOC coordination.

  • Drive IPO-readiness workstreams on technical accounting, disclosure, and segment reporting as the company scales.

Operational Finance

  • AP, payroll accounting, procurement controls, T&E policy, and vendor master governance.

  • Intercompany policies and settlement.

  • Capitalized software, fixed assets, and leases (ASC 842).

Systems, Data & AI

  • Own the finance tech stack: ERP (NetSuite or equivalent), close automation, subledgers, and the finance data warehouse.

  • Partner with Data and Engineering on finance data quality, ledger integrations, and reporting automation.

  • Modernize the close and reporting using AI tools, automations, and agents — measurable improvements to speed, accuracy, and insight.

Team & Leadership

  • Lead, hire, coach, and retain the team across accounting, tax, controls, and ops accounting.

  • Create clear career paths, raise the technical bar, and build a culture of ownership and high standards.

  • Act as a trusted partner to FP&A, Risk, Capital Markets, Treasury, Legal, and the exec team.

What You'll Bring

Must-Haves

  • 12+ years of progressive accounting experience, with 4+ years leading a Controller or Assistant Controller function at a lending, banking, or high-growth fintech business.

  • Deep expertise in consumer lending, BNPL, credit cards, auto, or another loan-originating business — interest accrual, loan loss reserves, securitization and warehouse accounting, and servicing economics are second nature.

  • Strong technical command of US GAAP: ASC 326 (CECL), ASC 310, ASC 860, ASC 606, ASC 842, ASC 740, ASC 815.

  • Working fluency in Mexican GAAP (NIF), Mexican tax (ISR, IVA, transfer pricing, CFDI, SAT), and Mexican statutory reporting for regulated financial entities.

  • Demonstrated record of optimizing close — measurable reductions in days-to-close, cleaner reconciliations, stronger controls.

  • Experience leading a Big 4 external audit end-to-end, plus lender and statutory audits.

  • Proven operator of finance systems — NetSuite (or equivalent), close-automation tools, and finance data pipelines.

  • Experience preparing a company for SOX / ICFR and public-company reporting.

  • Proven people leader — you've built, developed, and retained finance teams of 10+.

  • Full professional fluency in English and Spanish.

  • CPA, Contador Público Certificado (CPC), o equivalente.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience at a CNBV-regulated entity (SOFOM ENR, banco, IFPE, IFC) in Mexico.

  • IPO or public-company reporting experience (S-1, 10-Q/10-K, SOX 404).

  • M&A accounting and integration experience.

  • Hands-on use of AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, agents) to automate close, reconciliations, flux, and reporting.

What Success Looks Like in Year One

  • Monthly close runs on a predictable, shortened calendar with clean reconciliations and minimal post-close adjustments.

  • CECL methodology is documented, defensible, and tightly integrated with Risk and FP&A.

  • ICFR framework is in place and operating; audit closes on time with no material weaknesses.

  • Lender, trustee, and regulatory reporting obligations are met on time, every time, with zero surprises.

  • The team is stronger than you found it — people are growing, turnover is low, and accounting is a trusted partner across the company.

  • At least three meaningful AI or automation-driven improvements are live in close, reconciliations, or reporting.

  • The finance function is visibly further down the IPO-readiness roadmap than when you arrived.
