Position Overview
The Financial Accountant is responsible for completing all accounting related transactions timely and accurately in adherence to the close schedule. These duties consistently require the exercise of discretion and independent judgment and require knowledge necessary to analyze, interpret, and assist in decision making. This area is responsible for both P&C and Life accounting operations.
Essential Job Functions
- Prepares journal entries and reconciles various accounts
- Responsible for maintaining accounting structure and close schedules
- Communicates effectively with internal and external customers
- Responsible for administration and documentation of internal controls
- Promotes continuous process improvement within the accounting areas
- Works closely with the Financial Reporting team to ensure all financial data is accurate and timely for the monthly, quarterly and annual reporting requirements
- Assists with monthly processing of statistical data needed for financials
- Reconciles bank statements and accounts monthly
- Assists with external audit requests
- Performs other duties as assigned
Education & Experience
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Typically requires 1-3 years accounting experience
Certifications & Licenses
- Professional accounting or insurance designations preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Basic ability to:
- communicate effectively in both oral and written form
- define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusion
- analyze, organize, and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines
- analyze, consolidate, and interpret accounting data
- read, analyze, and interpret accounting and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents
Basic skill in:
- situational analysis and judgment in making critical decisions
- filing, bookkeeping, recording, and computational skills
Basic knowledge of:
- Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Demonstrated knowledge of:
- Microsoft Office software
Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future.
Salary Range:
$51,000.00 - $64,200.00 per year
- This range is based on the expected level of experience and skills for this position. Final compensation will depend on individual qualifications.
