About the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Finance Operations Lead to join a General Insurance operation that has just launched in Australia. We are a global underwriting leader providing best-in-class property, casualty and specialty reinsurance and insurance solutions.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced finance operations individual that will be responsible for developing and overseeing the financial operations as the business grows. As we begin the journey to build our business, we will have relationships with outsourcing providers that will need to be developed and maintained. Having a background in general insurance is desirable but not essential.

Duties will include: 

  • Overseeing the Credit Control / Accounts Receivable activities that will be supported by an outsourced provider. Regular reporting and monitoring of the receivable balances and aging will be a critical task for this role.

  • Setting up the Accounts Payable function and ensuring payments are made in a timely manner.

  • Daily matching of banking transactions

  • Overseeing vendor management, Concur (T&E), Fixed Assets, Leases, expense accounting and reconciliations.

  • Oversee monthly / quarterly expense closing calendar for FinOps to meet local, divisional and group needs.

  • Implement streamlined expense accounting processes to ensure optimal use of new ERP accounts payable module (Oracle).

  • Work with the outsourced partner to ensure all indirect insurance taxes and duties are prepared and lodged on time (for example, GST and Stamp Duty).

  • Support the expense budgeting process.

  • Developing efficiencies and automation in the finance operations processes and collaborating in driving process change and improvements across the finance function.

  • Developing end to end process documentation covering key processes to support financial control.

  • Supporting the internal and external audit teams on operational finance matters.

  • Work with the Treasury team to optimise the processing of payments with appropriate disbursement controls and anticipating large receipts or disbursements.

  • Oversee the implementation and on-going monitoring of Finance Operations related balance sheet account reconciliations.

Requirements:

  • CPA or CA qualified preferred,

  • Minimum 5 years of experience covering Account Receivable, Accounts Payable and Account Reconciliations ideally within the General Insurance industry,

  • Strong accounting skills covering journals and reconciliations,

  • Ideal to have experience with the various indirect taxes associated with general insurance policies and filings with the relevant Government departments,

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills,

  • Strong proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Excel as well as good knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, 

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy,

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels,

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines,

  • Highly organised with the ability to prioritise workload on a continual basis.
