Finance Assistant
Portsmouth
1 year Fixed Term Contract, full-time

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organised Finance Assistant to join our finance team in Portsmouth.

You will provide essential support to our finance department, assisting with day-to-day financial operations and administrative tasks. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a professional approach to financial management.

  • Process and record financial transactions accurately using accounting software and spreadsheets • Assist with the preparation of invoices, purchase orders, and expense reports
  • Maintain and reconcile financial records and ledgers 
  • Support the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions •
  • Perform data entry tasks with precision and efficiency 
  • Assist with bank reconciliations and cash management activities
  • Prepare financial reports and statements under supervision 
  • Support payroll processing and employee expense claims 
  • Liaise with internal departments and external suppliers regarding financial matters 
  • File and organise financial documentation in accordance with company procedures 
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures 
  • Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and company policies

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in accounting software (such as Sage, QuickBooks, or Xero)
  • Microsoft Excel skills 
  • Strong organisational and time-keeping abilities 
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry 
  • Knowledge of basic bookkeeping principles and accounting concepts 
  • Ability to analyse financial information and identify discrepancies 
  • Professional communication and people skills 
  • Ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines
  • Previous experience in a finance or accounting role 
  • Knowledge of UK VAT regulations and HMRC procedures 
  • Understanding of general ledger accounting principles 
  • Experience with document management systems
