We are seeking a detail-oriented and organised Finance Assistant to join our finance team in Portsmouth.
You will provide essential support to our finance department, assisting with day-to-day financial operations and administrative tasks. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a professional approach to financial management.
- Process and record financial transactions accurately using accounting software and spreadsheets • Assist with the preparation of invoices, purchase orders, and expense reports
- Maintain and reconcile financial records and ledgers
- Support the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions •
- Perform data entry tasks with precision and efficiency
- Assist with bank reconciliations and cash management activities
- Prepare financial reports and statements under supervision
- Support payroll processing and employee expense claims
- Liaise with internal departments and external suppliers regarding financial matters
- File and organise financial documentation in accordance with company procedures
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures
- Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and company policies
- Proficiency in accounting software (such as Sage, QuickBooks, or Xero)
- Microsoft Excel skills
- Strong organisational and time-keeping abilities
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
- Knowledge of basic bookkeeping principles and accounting concepts
- Ability to analyse financial information and identify discrepancies
- Professional communication and people skills
- Ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines
- Previous experience in a finance or accounting role
- Knowledge of UK VAT regulations and HMRC procedures
- Understanding of general ledger accounting principles
- Experience with document management systems
