About the Job:
This key member of the PR team supports effective external communications in support of Northwestern Mutual's field offices and advisors, thereby helping them achieve their business goals and objectives.
What You'll Do:
  • Under the direction of senior staff, creates and executes communication strategies and tactics to elevate the reputation and business opportunities of Northwestern Mutual and its financial advisors and offices.
  • Builds external understanding and support of Northwestern Mutual through proactive media outreach with local, regional, trade and national outlets. Cultivates meaningful relationships with media and advisors, helping to ensure successful outcomes over time.
  • Creates and distributes compelling media materials, including messaging documents, pitches, news releases, and media alerts.
  • Develops and deploys thought-provoking multimedia thought leadership content for use on social media, websites and newsletters. Serves in a client-facing role and responds in a timely and effective manner to inquiries and needs from Northwestern Mutual advisors and their teams.
  • Manages inbound inquiries to the Northwestern Mutual general media line, and reports on media activity to leadership.

What You'll Bring to the Role:
  • At least 2-3 years of dynamic experience in professional communication, public relations, organizational communications, marketing, training, or related communication field.
  • Bachelor's degree in communication, journalism, public relations, or social sciences.
  • Proactive professional who can build rapport with business partners and colleagues, provide counsel, and develop productive working relationships at all levels.
  • Curiosity and versatility to learn about and work with a variety of business areas and topics.
  • Strong presentation, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent people skills with the ability to manage relationships and communicate effectively by phone, email, and in person.
  • Firm understanding of the news cycle, the news media landscape, and what makes a story newsworthy.
  • Ability to solve problems on behalf of PR clients.
  • Solid experience using digital and social media and experience in content creation.
  • Strong understanding of PR metrics and analysis."
