The Boeing Company is seeking a Senior or Lead Structural Analysis Engineer (Level 4/5) to join the F-22 Air Vehicle Engineering team located in Berkeley, MO. The F-22 Raptor is the first of its kind, fifth generation fighter combining super-cruise, super-maneuverability, stealth, and sensor fusion. A successful member of this team will lead the Fleet and Production Support team. In this role, the individual will be responsible for supporting depot flow plans, fleet readiness, and production needs while leading the stress group in the F-22 Air Vehicle Structures organization.
The selected candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced, work environment. Team members will work with cross-functional teams including representatives from Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Liaison Engineering, Mods & Heavy Maintenance, and Program Management. The candidate must be able to provide technical directions to teammates on structural analysis and effectively communicate with cross-functional team members, our contracting partner Lockheed Martin, and our USAF customer.
A successful candidate should possess strong structural analysis skills and be proficient with classical solutions, as well as finite element software. Experience with composites and performing durability and damage tolerance analysis is desired. The candidate should be a self-starter with the ability to work with little oversight. Must be able to plan and execute tasks within constraints imposed by internal and external customer schedules. Good communication and leadership skills and experience mentoring junior engineers are highly desirable.

Job Responsibilities
  • Lead the Fleet & Production Support stress group, including mentoring, and workload prioritization; serve as a technical lead for the team
  • Provide expert structural stress analysis and engineering disposition for fleet sustainment (depot repairs, modifications, inspection findings) and production (build workarounds, design changes)
  • Execute detailed structural substantiation and stress analysis for bonded composite and metallic repairs using Patran, CSW, StressCheck, and program specific analysis tools
  • Direct the design and sizing of primary structure repairs for non-conformances (NCR); author technical dispositions that ensure compliance with military standards and airworthiness requirements
  • Perform, integrate, and document aircraft structural analyses using classical analytical methods, finite element models/simulations, and other analysis tools to maintain designed to "fit-form-function"
  • Analyze operational fleet data and customer field findings to identify systemic design deviations; author key technical communications and recommend actions for system owners and stakeholders
  • Support in-service products by investigating failures and proposing, developing, and analyzing improvements; coordinate with other engineering groups to establish and maintain product airworthiness
  • Ensure stress evaluations, repair procedures, engineering orders, and structural redesigns are reviewed and approved in accordance with company, program, and regulatory requirements (safety, configuration, documentation)
  • Lead root cause investigations into structural failures or anomalies and drive corrective actions
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for fleet readiness tied to structural health and depot turn time; communicate technical status and risk to senior leadership and customer stakeholders
  • Represent the stress organization at cross-functional reviews, and interact directly with depot/maintenance organizations, production engineering, configuration management, structural test, and flight operations
  • Work under minimal direction; exercise independent judgement and decisiveness in operationally sensitive, high tempo sustainment environments
  • Occasional travel (up to ~10%) to support the USAF customer, depots, suppliers, and production sites as required

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience)
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical or Material Sciences)
  • 5+ years' experience with aerospace stress analysis and/or structural analysis
  • Experience with or knowledge of structural design principles for aircraft primary structure (e.g., fatigue, damage tolerance, corrosion, stress analysis, statics, materials strength, material characteristics, and repair techniques)
  • 5+ years' experience with aircraft mechanical system design, production, fleet support, or sustaining engineering
  • 5+ years' experience working with structural sizing, and finite element models/simulations using NASTRAN/PATRAN. ABAQUS, Hypermesh, Optistruct, etc

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • 10+ years of higher education and/or related work experience (Higher education includes college, university, technical school, licensing/certification programs, etc.)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated ability to lead reviews and present to senior stakeholders

Summary pay range (Senior): $126,650 - $171,350
Summary pay range (Lead): $154,700 - $209,300
