A Brief Overview

As a senior member of the Business Development team, the Executive Director, Business Development Actuary supports the Head of Business Development in driving sustainable, profitable growth across both Traditional Reinsurance and Flow business lines. The role focuses on translating strategy into execution by leading deal processes, fostering client relationships, and coordinating with internal teams to deliver tailored reinsurance solutions and achieve strategic goals. The Executive Director contributes to strategic planning and market insights under the Head’s guidance but concentrates primarily on high-quality deal delivery and client satisfaction. Success in this role is achieved through influence, expertise, and close collaboration. The Executive Director may also represent the company in select external engagements as delegated by the Head, helping to enhance RGA’s presence in the Hong Kong and High Net Worth markets.

 

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Deal Execution & Growth: Lead and manage reinsurance deal opportunities from origination through closure – including high-quality proposal development, reinsurance quotations, and ensuring timely, comprehensive responses to client requests – while meeting growth, profitability, and risk requirements across Traditional and Flow business portfolios.
     
  • Client Engagement: Serve as a primary point of contact for clients and distributors on business development initiatives. Build and maintain strong client relationships by understanding client needs, offering innovative reinsurance solutions, and providing excellent service to drive long-term partnerships.
     
  • Cross-functional alignment: Work closely with cross-functional teams (e.g., Pricing, Structured & Financial Solutions, Underwriting, Product Development) to ensure seamless deal execution and deliver integrated solutions that meet client expectations and adhere to the company’s quality and compliance standards.
     
  • Strategic Support: Provide market feedback and insights to inform business development strategies and product development. Support the Head of Business Development in strategic planning and decision-making while focusing on the effective execution of agreed initiatives.
     
  • Selective External Representation: Represent the company in designated external interactions – such as specific client meetings or targeted industry events – as assigned by the Head of Business Development, to promote RGA’s capabilities and solutions in a coordinated and strategic manner.

Qualifications:

  • Qualified Actuary. Required
  • 10+ Years experience in a business development/sales relationship role. Required
  • Excellent understanding of the Life and Financial Risk industry, gained through related roles with an insurer or other industry group. Required
  • Understanding of the key business drivers for success in the market. Required
  • Ability to identify reinsurance opportunities (and issues) with clients and to coordinate resources to maximize leverage from them. Required
  • Proven negotiation, advisory skills in order to deliver the optimal long-term outcome for RGA. Required
  • Credibility and visibility as a strong ambassador for RGA’s market positioning as a proactive technical and practical innovator. Required
  • Sound knowledge of insurance product profitability, premium rate setting as well as insurance product experience analysis. Required
  • Strategic agility. Required
  • Positive outlook and innovative approach to overcoming potential obstacles/issues. Required
  • Ability to build an effective network of advocates in the industry. Required
  • Strong team player – ability to help/support both internally and externally. Required
  • Exceptional relationship management skills. Required
