We're looking for a P.E. to run engineering across a portfolio of transmission and distribution-scale projects. You won't be doing design production, and you won't be stamping drawings. You'll be the senior technical person on multiple jobs at once, backing up the engineers and project engineers doing the work, making the calls that need making, and keeping engineering ahead of construction instead of behind it. A good part of that is working alongside operations so deliverables keep moving. Drawing sets, billing milestones, change orders. Somebody has to know where all of it stands, and on your projects that's you.
Pay: $130,000–$165,000
The pay listed is the salary range for this position. Any specific offer will vary based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, and alignment with market data.
You may be eligible to participate in a Company incentive or bonus program.
You'll set priorities and hand out work across teams you don't own. That part is harder than the engineering.
Responsibilities
- Own engineering across multiple concurrent projects as the technical authority on design decisions, constructability, and scope
- Support the engineers and project engineers on each job. Review their work, answer the hard questions, and raise the bar on what goes out the door
- Assign engineering tasks and set priorities across the portfolio, working with the Director of Engineering
- Serve as the main technical contact for customer engineering teams
- Sit in on customer PM meetings and internal project meetings and contribute technically, not just report status
- Work alongside operations to track internal and external deliverables, including drawing sets, billing milestones, and change orders
- Work with suppliers of major equipment including control houses, switchgear, reclosers, and protective relaying. Drive submittals to approval instead of waiting on them
- Make sure engineering milestones, long lead dates, and submittal cycles show up accurately in the project schedule
- Flag technical risk early, while it's still cheap to fix
- Support proposals with technical review, scope development, and engineering estimates
- Build up the engineering group through review, mentorship, and sharing what you know
Qualifications
- Licensed PE. Electrical strongly preferred
- 10+ years of engineering experience with significant time on transmission or distribution-scale work, substation design, or utility interconnection
- Strong medium and high voltage background, including protection and controls, switchgear, and utility interconnection requirements
- Proven ability to carry several projects at once without dropping detail on any of them
- Knows the submittal and procurement process for major electrical apparatus cold
- Can lead technical work across teams that don't report to you and read a room while doing it
- Comfortable in front of customer engineering leadership and able to hold a position under pressure
- Has worked next to construction teams and understands how design decisions land in the field
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
Additional Information
- Reports to the Director of Operations with close alignment to the Director of Engineering
- Up to 25%
