The Engineering Manager leads, grows and manages a team of engineers building software for new or improved features in Xero's products and its associated service delivery systems. Serving as a leader of individual contributors and technical leads, you act as a coach and advisor to your direct reports, cultivating a high-performance environment by providing guidance, building talent and aligning everyone with Xero's strategic objectives. You champion processes and practices that enable engineers to get great work done safely, while supporting and growing the next generation of technical talent.
By fostering a culture of continuous empathy towards customers, you ensure your team delivers better quality software faster to make a measurable impact on the overall product vision. You own the hiring process for your group, identify skill gaps and empower your team to make fast, decentralized decisions that reduce delays and enable innovative solutions. Your focus remains on keeping the team unblocked and accelerated in their adoption of modern engineering practices while consistently meeting service level objectives and security standards. You embrace and push for new technology and processes, such as artificial intelligence, to drive efficiency and stay at the forefront of engineering excellence.
The team / how they connect
You will lead the Bills team, a large team based in Toronto that owns the core Accounts Payable product area for Xero. This team manages critical workflows like Bills, Credit Notes and Spend Documents that handle millions of daily visits. The team operates with a highly collaborative, cross-functional approach, partnering closely with design and product disciplines to carve out future roadmaps and solve real customer problems.
The team is currently working on / Initially, you will focus on
Managing the technical vision, operational health and product delivery for all of Accounts Payable using a tech stack built on .NET core and React.
Mentoring Junior and Senior engineers in their careers and performance development
Coordinating cross-team dependencies and navigating occasional collaborative alignment with southern teams.
Building out automated and prediction workflows with the help of artificial intelligence to supercharge small business efficiency.
Fostering a positive team culture, driving AI adoption, and encouraging active contribution to internal engineering Communities of Practice.
Where and how you can work
This role is based in Toronto and is mainly remote, offering flexible working arrangements. To connect and collaborate, the team has a designated in-office boost day every week, usually coming into the office on Thursdays, along with regular social meetups and connections every quarter.

The expected base salary range for this role is $175000 - $203,000 CAD.
Individual pay is determined by various factors, including geography, level of experience, and the specific skills you bring to the role.
In addition to base pay, Xero’s roles are eligible for the following forms of variable compensation:
