As Engineering Manager, you lead, coach, and develop best-in class cross-functional teams of software engineers, together with the value stream leadership team, product managers, domain architects, and other key stakeholders. You are the essential link between product and engineering, translating between the two worlds, and ensuring your teams deliver what they promise. You make sure that the teams are set up for high performance, have a clear product plan that focuses on the right priorities, and delivers software that exceeds the expectations of our customers. You actively drive the team to get feedback from all stakeholders across Backbase and where needed you will take action.
Meet the job:
In your role, you have to deal with both technical and people systems; you connect structures, teams, and people, holding them together, but also identify and fill gaps where needed. You are a technically strong role model to help your team advance and develop, while being hands-on when needed. You are responsible for and help the teams set out the strategic direction. You align engineering initiatives with company goals, helping engineers understand how their work connects to the bigger picture. You support individual engineers’ growth, help teams become successful, make the organization more productive, functional, and innovative. Along with leading and growing the team, you define and promote the team’s ways of working, hiring, and training strategies.
How about you
● Bachelor’s degree in software engineering or similar experience;
● 7+ years of hands-on software development/engineering experience, of which at least 2 years with people management responsibilities;
● 2+ years of experience in leading multi-disciplinary Agile development teams (minimum 2 teams of 6 - 8 engineers), preferably in a product company and banking, payments and SaaS experience is a plus ;
● Good knowledge and experience with Agile methodology like scrum or kanban;
● Experience hiring engineers, defining an ideal team composition and defining onboarding/training strategies is a plus;
● Very good understanding of technical practices like continuous integration, automated testing, release management, performance monitoring and applicable tooling such as Jira, Confluence, Git, etc;
● Excellent English speaking, writing and presentation skills;
