Role Overview

We are looking for a highly skilled and mission-driven Engineering Manager to join Brigit’s engineering leadership team. Our financial health platform has tremendous traction in helping low-income Americans who struggle to make ends meet. In this role, you will lead high-performing engineering teams building critical products, platform integrations, and scalable financial systems.

You will work closely with a cross-functional team (Product Managers, Designers, Data Scientists, and Business Operations) to ship innovative product experiences at scale—ranging from optimizing established core features to leading 0-to-1 initiatives. You’ll be responsible for bringing out the best in your engineers, mentoring talent, establishing efficient team processes, and creating an inclusive environment where people do their best work.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead, empower, and grow a diverse team of software engineers across varying seniority levels through regular 1:1s, actionable feedback, and structured career planning.

  • Partner closely with Product, Design, Data, and Business counterparts to define product roadmaps, scope technical initiatives, and balance business priorities with engineering speed.

  • Drive technical execution across sprint planning, capacity allocation, and architectural oversight to ensure timely, reliable delivery.

  • Guide architectural decisions and evaluate technical design docs for complex systems, ensuring high standards for security, testability, monitoring, and scale.

  • Foster a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement, supporting both complex platform scaling and fast-paced 0-to-1 product builds.

What you have

  • 8+ years of total software engineering experience, including 3+ years directly managing and mentoring engineering teams in high-growth environments.

  • Proven track record of building, shipping, and maintaining complex backend or platform architectures over multiple release cycles.

  • Experience leading teams through technical ambiguity, including leading greenfield (0-to-1) product builds or core platform transformations.

  • Strong cross-functional leadership skills with experience regularly collaborating with product managers, design leads, and business stakeholders.

  • Passion for fostering an inclusive, high-performing engineering culture.

  • Tech Stack: We primarily use Java running in GCP on the backend, and React Native on the mobile frontend. Experience with this stack is a plus, but strong engineering leadership fundamentals and architectural judgment matter most.
