Software Engineering Manager – Unified Platform

The Unified Platform powers the core financial infrastructure behind Adyen’s platform - from how transactions are processed to how financial data is stored, monitored, and configured. It plays a critical role in ensuring that payments, accounting, reporting, and reconciliation work seamlessly across all products and customer segments.

We are currently hiring four Software Engineering Managers within the Unified Platform. These teams work on different parts of the platform but share a common mission: building scalable, reliable systems that power Adyen’s global financial ecosystem.

Depending on your experience and strengths, you may join one of the following domains:

• Transaction Platform
  Build and support Adyen’s core transaction platform by providing a highly available API to store and retrieve transaction data and events across the system.
  
• Storage & Scale
  Design and evolve the storage architecture behind Adyen’s financial systems, ensuring our data infrastructure can scale reliably as transaction volumes grow.
  
• Finance Observability
  Enable transparent and reliable financial operations by building monitoring and alerting systems for critical financial flows across the platform.
  
• Unified Configuration
  Create a consistent platform experience by standardizing internal infrastructure and configuration systems that power Adyen’s financial products.

Your final team placement will be determined based on your skills, experience, and the technical fit identified during the interview process.

• Lead, grow, and mentor a team of 5–6 engineers building critical components of Adyen’s financial infrastructure.
• Guide the design and development of scalable distributed systems using Core Java, web services, queueing frameworks, REST APIs, and SQL/PostgreSQL.
• Collaborate closely with product and platform teams to design systems that are reliable, scalable, and easy to operate.
• Balance long-term technical improvements with product delivery.
• Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Set clear team goals aligned with engineering and product strategy.
• Improve operational excellence through automation, observability, and system reliability.
• Hire and develop engineering talent that thrives in a fast-moving environment.

• A strong people manager who enjoys coaching engineers and enabling teams to perform at their best.
• Technically proficient in backend engineering, with strong experience in Java or other modern programming languages used to build large-scale distributed systems.
• Comfortable making difficult decisions and communicating clearly with strong senior engineers.
• Skilled at collaborating across teams and aligning stakeholders around technical decisions.
• A clear communicator who can explain complex technical concepts to both engineers and non-technical audiences.
• Experienced working with senior leadership to shape technical strategy and roadmaps.

• 3+ years of people management experience leading engineering teams.
• 8+ years of experience in backend software engineering.
