Job Description:

Title: Engineering Manager

Location: India IT Office, Hyderabad
Organization: Enterprise Technology and Operations
Team: Platform Infrastructure Engineering

What You’ll Discover

  • An inclusive culture with career growth and leadership opportunities.

  • A global technology organization collaborating across India, the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Australia.

  • The opportunity to develop India-based engineering talent and lead a global Monitoring and Observability capability.

  • A collaborative environment focused on engineering excellence, reliability, security, and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Do

The Enterprise Technology and Operations organization delivers, maintains, secures, and optimizes TJX’s enterprise technology services. Within this organization, the Platform Infrastructure Engineering team provides the foundational platforms and engineering capabilities that support applications and business services across the enterprise.

As the Infrastructure Platform Engineering Manager, you will lead India-based associates within Platform Infrastructure Engineering who support Technology Lifecycle Management, Operating System Lifecycle, server delivery, and vulnerability remediation. These capabilities are governed and overseen by global teams. You will manage the India-based associates in close partnership with their global functional leaders, ensuring alignment on priorities, standards, delivery commitments, and associate development.

You will also have full leadership accountability for the global Monitoring and Observability POD, including its people, strategy, roadmap, engineering delivery, service health, and continuous improvement.

This role requires a leader who can manage a global function, develop India-based engineering talent, and work effectively across a highly matrixed global organization.

Ideal candidate profile: A seasoned Infrastructure & Operations leader with 12+ years of experience, including 3+ years in people management, possessing deep expertise in Vulnerability & Patch Management, Technology Lifecycle Management, and enterprise Monitoring & Observability platforms. The successful candidate should bring an engineering-led mindset, demonstrating the ability to drive platform modernization, automation, reliability, and global team leadership, rather than a traditional operations-focused approach.

Key Responsibilities

People and Organizational Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop India-based infrastructure engineers and technical specialists.

  • Manage goal setting, performance, feedback, career development, engagement, and succession planning.

  • Recruit, onboard, mentor, and retain strong engineering talent.

  • Build an inclusive culture focused on ownership, collaboration, accountability, and engineering excellence.

  • Partner with global functional leaders to align associate objectives, priorities, capacity, and development plans.

  • Establish clear responsibilities and measurable outcomes for individuals and teams.

Technology and Operating System Lifecycle Partnership

  • Manage India-based associates supporting the globally led Technology Lifecycle Management and Operating System Lifecycle capabilities.

  • Partner with global capability leaders to execute lifecycle roadmaps, engineering priorities, and risk-reduction plans.

  • Support lifecycle management for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Microsoft Windows Server.

  • Ensure India-based teams follow global standards for operating-system engineering, hardening, patching, upgrades, automation, and vulnerability remediation.

  • Provide visibility into delivery progress, resource needs, technical debt, lifecycle risks, and cross-functional dependencies.

  • Coordinate with Architecture, Cybersecurity, Infrastructure, Cloud, Application, and Operations teams.

  • Support the reduction of unsupported, aging, vulnerable, and nonstandard technologies.

Monitoring and Observability Leadership

  • Lead the global Monitoring and Observability POD with end-to-end accountability for its people, strategy, roadmap, delivery, and operational results.

  • Define and execute the Monitoring and Observability roadmap in alignment with Enterprise Technology and Operations priorities.

  • Lead engineering across monitoring, metrics, logs, telemetry, events, alerting, dashboards, integrations, and service-health capabilities.

  • Establish standards for observability, platform onboarding, production readiness, and service-health visibility.

  • Improve monitoring coverage, alert quality, ownership, actionability, and operational insight.

  • Reduce monitoring gaps, duplicate alerts, nonactionable events, operational noise, and manual effort.

  • Promote automation, reusable integrations, standard telemetry patterns, and scalable onboarding practices.

  • Partner with infrastructure, application, cybersecurity, service-management, and operations teams to improve detection, troubleshooting, escalation, and recovery.

  • Define measurable service outcomes and communicate capability health, risks, priorities, and progress to technology leadership.

Server Delivery and Vulnerability Management

  • Support continuous improvement of secure, standardized, and automated server-delivery processes.

  • Ensure new server builds meet lifecycle, hardening, monitoring, backup, recoverability, and operational-readiness requirements.

  • Partner with global teams to reduce delivery lead time, manual effort, configuration variation, and post-delivery defects.

  • Support risk-based prioritization and remediation of operating-system and infrastructure vulnerabilities.

  • Incorporate vulnerability requirements into platform standards, server builds, patching, automation, and lifecycle plans.

  • Track remediation progress, aging risks, exceptions, and recurring findings.

  • Promote sustainable remediation through automation, platform upgrades, secure configurations, and retirement of unsupported technologies.

Engineering and Operational Excellence

  • Promote infrastructure as code, configuration management, source control, automated testing, peer review, and CI/CD practices.

  • Support incident response, root-cause analysis, problem management, capacity planning, and continuous improvement.

  • Ensure teams maintain effective documentation, support procedures, recovery processes, and operational ownership.

  • Manage cross-functional risks, dependencies, priorities, and stakeholder expectations.

  • Communicate progress, decisions, risks, and recommendations clearly to technical teams and senior leaders.

  • Use service and delivery data to identify improvement opportunities and demonstrate measurable outcomes.

What You’ll Need

We seek a customer-focused engineering leader who combines strong people management, infrastructure knowledge, operational discipline, and cross-functional influence.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Ability to lead through ambiguity and deliver measurable outcomes across a matrixed organization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading a global Monitoring and Observability function or engineering POD.

  • Experience with enterprise monitoring, observability, logging, metrics, telemetry, alerting, dashboards, event management, OpenTelemetry, or AIOps.

  • Experience with Ansible, Terraform, Packer, PowerShell, Python, Bash, GitHub, Jenkins, or similar technologies.

  • Experience with VMware, Microsoft Azure, infrastructure automation, and hybrid environments.

  • Familiarity with Tenable or comparable vulnerability-management technologies.

  • Familiarity with CIS Benchmarks, NIST-aligned practices, ITIL, DevSecOps, and policy as code.

  • Experience with ServiceNow, Jira, Confluence, LeanIX, or comparable enterprise platforms.

  • Experience working with vendors, managed service providers, and globally distributed delivery teams.

Measures of Success

  • A high-performing and engaged India-based engineering team with clear goals and development plans.

  • Strong alignment between India associates and global Technology Lifecycle Management and Operating System Lifecycle partners.

  • Consistent execution of lifecycle, hardening, vulnerability-remediation, and server-delivery priorities.

  • A clear global Monitoring and Observability strategy, roadmap, operating model, and set of service measures.

  • Improved monitoring coverage, alert quality, service visibility, automation, and operational actionability.

  • Reduced unsupported technologies, security exposure, monitoring gaps, manual work, and recurring operational issues.

  • Strong collaboration across Enterprise Technology and Operations, Architecture, Cybersecurity, Application, and Cloud teams.

  • Transparent reporting of delivery status, service health, technical risk, dependencies, and measurable outcomes.
