Job Description Summary:

As an Engineering Manager, you will provide leadership for your development teams in all phases of our design system lifecycle. In this role, you will be responsible for shaping the future of PayPal's design systems that power consistent and seamless user experiences across all products. This will be accomplished through technical leadership, managing deliverables, and collaborating across teams and functions. You will use your leadership experience to foster the growth of your team members, improve operations, and cultivate a culture of engineering excellence and design consistency.

Job Description:

Your Day to Day:

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to teams of software engineers focused on design systems, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish outcomes and key results (OKRs) and successfully deliver them. Drive improvements in key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Increase the productivity and velocity of design system delivery teams.
  • Develop, plan, and execute engineering roadmaps that enhance the quality and consistency of the design system, bringing value to our customers and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate and coordinate across design, engineering, product, and QA teams to ensure technical, product, and user experience objectives are met.
  • Instill end-to-end ownership of design system components, libraries, and tools to deliver in all phases of the software development lifecycle.
  • Advocate for the use of design systems across the organization and guide teams in adopting best practices for design consistency and scalability.

What You Bring:

  • 10+ years of experience in the software industry, with 5+ years of professional experience leading teams focused on design systems or user experience engineering.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to address complex technical and design challenges.
  • Experience building and developing engineering teams that demonstrate strong ownership, user empathy, and design and engineering excellence.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality design systems or robust/scalable frontend, components, and software that enhance user experiences and bring value to users.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including design, engineering, product, and manage stakeholders’ expectations.
  • Ability to coach and mentor talent to reach their full potential.
  • Experience in building scalable, reusable, and consistent design systems that support a variety of user interfaces.
  • Strong understanding of software development methodologies, modern technology trends and frameworks, design system architecture, and developer operations best practices.

The U.S. national annual pay range for this role is

$96900 to $234300
