As an Interference Engineer at Spectrum, you'll safeguard critical infrastructure and drive cost-effective interference management throughout municipal projects, collaborating with NYC agencies from initial design to project closeout. Your work will directly ensure that Spectrum's facilities are protected, supported, or relocated when it matters most.
How You'll Make an Impact
- Coordinate pre-engineering and design activities to identify and address interferences in project plans
- Request strategic design accommodations during alignment meetings to minimize interference scope and costs
- Develop engineering inputs and detailed drawings for city contract documents, depicting relocation and protection needs
- Prepare comprehensive interference packages for city contracts and negotiate costs using industry standards and historical data
- Conduct and direct site surveys, monitor ongoing construction, and ensure Spectrum facilities are supported per contract requirements
- Interface with field inspectors and construction coordinators for audits, mark-out verification, damage investigation, and status reporting
- Review claims, prepare estimates, reconcile invoices, and document final quantities to maintain cost controls and compliance
- Maintain strong relationships with NYC agencies, supporting coordination throughout all project phases

Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management or related field
Experience
- 3+ years of utility coordination, municipal construction or interference/relocation work within urban rights-of-way
- Demonstrated experience preparing quantities, estimates and technical packages for public works contracts
Skills
- Understanding of direct and indirect interference, support/protect methods and relocation design fundamentals
- Strong negotiation, estimating and cost-control skills
- Comfortable conducting site visits and coordinating with inspectors, contractors and agency representatives
- Working knowledge of enterprise and field tracking tools
- Ability to interpret city and utility plans and translate them into actionable contract items
- Knowledge of NYC administrative codes relevant to public works interferences and Spectrum's franchise obligations
- Familiarity with NYC agency (DDC, DEP, DOT, MTA, Parks) processes and contract mechanisms such as Section U and Joint Bid
- Proficiency in cost negotiations and invoice reconciliation using industry standards, GCA and T&M methods

The base pay for this position generally is between
$81,800.00 and $157,200.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
