Engineer - Product Development
Based at Silueta, Biyagama
The Engineer Product Development is responsible for designing, developing, and validating innovative products that meet customer requirements while ensuring manufacturability, quality, profitability, and a smooth transition into production. The role involves technical development, stakeholder coordination, product testing, process optimization, and continuous improvement throughout the product development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead product development activities from concept to production while adhering to established development processes.
Develop accurate samples, prototypes, and product specifications to meet customer and business requirements.
Coordinate with cross-functional teams including Marketing, Quality, Production, and Technical teams to ensure timely project execution.
Prepare and manage Time & Action plans to achieve project milestones and delivery timelines.
Conduct product trials, validations, pilot runs, and testing activities to ensure product performance and quality standards are met.
Develop and communicate technical specifications, BOM requirements, and product documentation to support production processes.
Analyze and evaluate new materials, technologies, and product concepts to support innovation initiatives.
Identify and resolve technical issues during product development and recommend effective solutions.
Support capacity planning, resource utilization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Provide technical guidance and training to team members and operational teams as required.
Knowledge and Skills:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Textile & Clothing Engineering, Production Engineering, or Product Design Engineering.
Strong understanding of product development processes, manufacturing principles, and technical specifications.
Project management and planning capabilities with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
Knowledge of product testing, validation, quality standards, and continuous improvement methodologies.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional environment and meet challenging deadlines.
Innovation mindset with the capability to evaluate and implement new materials, technologies, and product concepts.
Skills Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechatronics, Textile, Production, Product Design)
- Strong understanding of product development processes and manufacturing principles
- Project management and planning capabilities (manage multiple priorities, Time & Action plans)
- Analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach
