Designs and develops automotive restraint components, including seatbelts, airbags, crash sensors, and steering wheels, to meet crashworthiness requirements and regulations. Coordinates with engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, styling, and suppliers throughout vehicle development. Manages supplier quality, cost, and timing, supports digital and physical evaluations, completes tasks independently, and leads cross-functional activities.

Come Drive Innovation with Us. We are currently looking for an Engineer 3 to join our team in Farmington Hills.

A Day in the Life:     

  • Leading the design/development of various restraint system components to ensure that both component and overall vehicle crashworthiness requirements and regulations are achieved.
  • Restraint system components for which an engineer is responsible will potentially include seatbelts, front/side/rollover airbags, crash detection sensors, and steering wheels.
  • Interfacing with internal engineering departments (Safety, Body Design, Interior Trim, etc.), non-engineering departments (Styling, Product Planning, Manufacturing, purchasing, etc.) and Suppliers to ensure that restrain system is optimally packaged within the vehicle and will meet customer expectations.
  • Managing suppliers to ensure components meet Quality, Cost, and Timing requirements.
  • These responsibilities are held throughout the vehicle development process (from early digital design phases, the physical build/evaluation phase, and through the start of production).
  • Able to complete tasks with limited support
  • Lead department and cross functional activities

Who We’re Looking for:  

Required: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical, Electrical).
  • Strong analytical and technical skills.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office.
  • Automotive engineering experience (Design & Release or Safety) and CAD skills preferred, but not mandatory.
  • 3-4 years of relevant experience
  • Travel required- approximately 4 trips/year

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, such as Mechanical, Biomedical, or Electrical Engineering
  • Strong analytical and technical skills
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • 3–4 years of relevant experience
  • Automotive engineering experience in Design and Release or Safety
  • CAD skills
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States
