Position Overview:

The Employee Relations Business Partner supporting Medical Education and Research serves as a strategic HR partner for residents, fellows, and faculty, recognizing trainees’ dual role as both learners and employees. This role provides guidance and partnership on resident and fellow employment classification, contracts, onboarding, compensation, benefits, and leave programs in compliance with ACGME and regulatory requirements. The role also supports labor relations, mitigates employee relations risk, and partners with medical leadership on performance management and corrective action strategies.
The position leads scalable recruiting and onboarding solutions for both trainees and faculty. This includes delivering a centralized, high-volume onboarding model for large resident and fellow cohorts, often exceeding 185 individuals, and supporting faculty recruitment for new and expanding programs, including Program Directors, Associate Program Directors, and core faculty. The role partners closely with Talent and Marketing teams to align employer branding and Match recruitment strategies.
The Employee Relations Business Partner also plays a key role in advancing culture, engagement, and well-being within high-demand academic and clinical environments. This includes supporting resident and fellow well-being initiatives, leave structures, and workplace practices that promote inclusion, psychological safety, and engagement for learners and educators alike.
The ideal candidate will have GME/Med Ed and Research experience.

Job Description:

The person selected for this role must live in the area and work on site regularly. This is NOT a remote role.

This person, with a strong academics background, will support the Medical Education, Research and other departments as assigned.

EDUCATION:

Equivalent experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.

  • Bachelor’s degree

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

  • 5 years recent relevant experience

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Progressively responsible employee relations or human resources experience, including direct experience with investigations, performance management, and employee relations casework.
  • Demonstrated experience handling investigations, performance management, discipline, and employee relations casework.
  • Strong employee relations and employment law knowledge, including federal and state regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach leaders through complex and sensitive employee situations.
  • Sound judgment and ability to balance employee experience, business needs, and risk considerations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including documentation and stakeholder communication.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, matrixed environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Commitment to inclusion, fairness, and respectful workplace practices.

Pay Range is $119,995.20 to $179,982.40 / annual salary. Sacramento Pay Range is $104,332.80 to $156,499.20 / annual salary.

The compensation range may vary based on the geographic location where the position is filled. Total compensation considers multiple factors, including, but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure, certifications, departmental equity, training, and organizational needs. Base pay is only one component of Sutter Health’s comprehensive total rewards program. Eligible positions also include a comprehensive benefits package.
