We’re looking for experienced engineers and technical leaders who are passionate about identifying and nurturing exceptional talent.
As a Freelance Technical Interviewer, you’ll join a community of senior engineers shaping Empirical’s technical standards. You’ll assess candidates’ problem-solving depth, communication clarity, and overall engineering quality — helping us build high-impact teams for fast-moving, AI-driven startups.
You’ll interview candidates for companies building modern, cloud-based products, where adaptability and technical excellence matter most. Rather than deep specialization in a single stack, we value engineers who can evaluate trade-offs, reason technically, and assess holistic engineering maturity.
This is a flexible, freelance, remote role — ideal for senior professionals who enjoy mentoring, evaluating talent, and contributing to a people-first engineering culture.
What You’ll DoConduct structured technical and behavioral interviews for senior- and lead-level engineers (Full Stack, Backend, Frontend, or Data).
Assess alignment with Empirical’s values and client expectations.
Evaluate technical proficiency, problem-solving approach, and communication clarity.
Use Empirical’s standardized guides, rubrics, and live coding challenges to ensure consistent, high-quality evaluations.
Document insights and provide written feedback.
Collaborate with the Talent Acquisition team to refine rubrics and maintain consistent standards.
Report to Empirical’s Engineering Manager to align on technical scope, interview quality, and continuous improvements.
Senior or Lead Engineer with strong, hands-on product development experience.
Passion for mentoring, evaluating, and supporting other engineers.
Clear and empathetic communicator with a pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset.
Fluent in English (written and verbal, as interviews and feedback will be in English fully).
Flexibility/Availability to conduct 1–1.5-hour interviews on weekdays within LATAM or US Eastern working hours.

Technical background:
Common technologies you’ll encounter include JavaScript, TypeScript, Python (occasionally Go), React, Next.js, Node.js, NestJS, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Redis, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines.
Architecture topics often include REST/GraphQL APIs, microservices, event-driven systems, and system design.
Nice to have:
Experience interviewing, hiring, or mentoring engineers.
Background in teaching, bootcamps, or technical mentorship.
Experience working in early-stage or high-growth startups.
