The Role
Creates and maintains electrical designs for lighting, power distribution, and related systems using AutoCAD and Revit. Performs electrical load, lighting density, and short-circuit calculations; prepares plans, riser diagrams, details, schedules, cost estimates, and equipment specifications. Conducts site surveys, supports engineering studies and contract documents, participates in meetings, and helps deliver projects on time and within budget while complying with NEC and industry standards.

Overall Responsibility:  With guidance from senior engineers, responsible for the completion and maintenance of high quality electrical designs, including but not limited to: lighting & power distribution, using AutoCAD and Revit, while complying with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and other industry standards.

Essential Functions: 

  • Determines design criteria, drawing sequence and presentation, sizing various system components.
  • Refines rough sketches and notes to include material quantities and equipment specifications obtained from standard calculations and vendor information.
  • Develops quantities and determines labor and material costs for cost estimates-- generally supports preparation of contract documents.
  • Accurately performs appropriate calculations for assignments, including but not limited to:  lighting density calculations using standard lighting software, electrical load calculations complying with NEC 220, and short circuit calculations using industry standard methods.
  • Prepares plan drawings, riser diagrams, details, and schedules using appropriate software.
  • Develops solutions to design problems.
  • Selects basic electrical equipment, such as panel boards, switchgear, transformers, conductors, light fixtures, lighting controls, etc. with guidance from senior engineers in the company.
  • Assists in the creation of construction cost estimates.
  • Performs site surveys and contributes to engineering studies.
  • Attends and contributes to client and departmental meetings.
  • Ensures assigned projects are completed within budget and on time.

Secondary Functions:

  • Supports applicable software requests as needed.
  • Lends support to all business areas outside of electrical focus as needed.
  • Duties as assigned by Electrical Discipline Lead.
Qualifications

Needed Skills:

  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC), and industry standards for electrical design
  • Proficient in MS Office, especially Word, Excel and Outlook. 
  • AutoCAD proficiency for Electrical Engineer candidate.
  • AutoCAD and REVIT proficiency for Electrical Designer candidate.
  • Ability to learn and become capable in SKM Software and Means Estimating Software within four months of hire.
  • Understanding of underlying principals of A/E industry.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Detail and safety-oriented.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Ability to create and maintain productive relationships with employees, clients, and vendors.

  • Education/Experience Minimum:
  •  
  • BS in Electrical Engineering
  • EIT preferred for Electrical Engineering candidate.
  • Ability to drive and maintain a safe driving record.
  • Valid state driver’s license (any in US).
  • In possession of appropriate paperwork to gain and maintain employment in the US.
  • Ability to meet worksite security requirements.

Skills Required
