Position Overview

The EHS Specialist will develop, implement, and maintain environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role is critical in promoting an effective safety culture, minimizing workplace hazards, and supporting sustainable operations within a high-volume medical device manufacturing environment.

· Compliance & Audits:

  • Conduct regular safety inspections and environmental audits across manufacturing, warehouse and general facilities’ operations.
  • Ensure compliance, in collaboration with People & Culture, with OSHA, EPA, and all other applicable local, federal or global health and safety laws, regulations and directives.

· Program Development:

  • Design and implement EHS programs, policies, and procedures tailored to medical device manufacturing standards.
  • Maintain documentation for applicable regulatory reporting and internal audits.

· Training & Education:

  • Deliver safety training and emergency response programs for employees and contractors.
  • Promote awareness of environmental and occupational health standards.

· Ergonomics:

  • Conduct ergonomic assessments of workspaces and operations.​
  • Recommend and implement solutions for improving comfort, safety, and efficiency.​
  • Track, document, and report on ergonomic interventions and their effectiveness.​
  • Create training programs for healthy work habits and ergonomic practices.​
  • Stay up-to-date with ergonomic trends, regulations, and new technologies

· Incident Management:

  • Investigate and partner with People & Culture on accidents, near misses, and environmental incidents; recommend corrective actions.
  • Track and analyze safety metrics to identify trends and bolster continuous improvement.

· Hazard Monitoring:

  • Monitor chemical, biological, and physical hazards in production areas.
  • Coordinate industrial hygiene assessments (air quality, noise mapping, ergonomics).

· Collaboration:

  • Partner with Manufacturing, Facilities, People & Culture, Finance, and Legal to ensure EHS programs are integrated into business processes and employee relations.
  • Act as a key liaison with Global Health & Safety leadership, aligning local initiatives with global EHS strategies and supporting enterprise-wide standards.

Necessary qualifications (Knowledge and Skills needed for this position.)

  • Deep understanding of OSHA, EPA, ISO 14001/45001, and medical device industry standards.
  • Ability to interpret and apply regulations to complex manufacturing environments.
  • Skilled in identifying, evaluating, and mitigating environmental and workplace hazards.
  • Proficient in root cause analysis and corrective action planning.
  • Skilled ability to communicate technical EHS concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Encourages leadership and employees to adopt safe practices and sustainability initiatives.
  • Builds effective partnerships with Manufacturing, Facilities, People & Culture, Finance, Legal, and global EHS teams.
  • Navigates cross-functional priorities and aligns local actions with global strategies.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret safety metrics and environmental data.
  • Uses data-driven insights to recommend improvements and demonstrate compliance.
  • Designs and delivers engaging safety training programs.
  • Coaches employees and supervisors on EHS best practices.
  • Responds quickly and effectively to incidents and compliance challenges.
  • Demonstrates the ability to make informed decisions while prioritizing safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Manages multiple EHS initiatives simultaneously, meeting deadlines and budget constraints.
  • Applies structured methodologies for program rollout and continuous improvement.
  • Understands global EHS frameworks and adapts them to local operations.
  • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity when working with international teams.
  • Maintains confidentiality and ensures ethical handling of compliance and employee safety matters.
  • Support documentation and reporting on corporate ESG requirements for our local operations.
  • Ability to respond quickly and physically in emergency situations, including evacuation or assisting others.

Desired Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.

Preferred Education:

Experience:

  • 3+ years in EHS roles within manufacturing or warehouse setting (medical device or regulated industry preferred).
  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and ISO 14001/45001 standards.
  • Advanced communication and training skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and implement proactive safety measures.
  • Proficiency with EHS management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • CSP, CIH, or OSHA 30-hour certification preferred

Working Environment:

The position will be working onsite at mixed use facility including front office, manufacturing and warehouse. 

Physical Demands:

Ability to move throughout manufacturing and facility areas. Occasionally lift and carry materials or equipment up to 25 lbs (e.g., safety gear, testing instruments). Adequate vision to read safety signs, labels, and computer screens; ability to distinguish colors for hazard identification. Ability to hear alarms, machine sounds, and verbal instructions in a noisy environment.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position working Monday – Friday. 

Ability to work occasional weekends and holidays

Pay Transparency Notice: 

Depending on your work location, the target annual salary for this position can range from $80,000 to $95,000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus. Compensation for roles at GN depend on a wide array of factors including but not limited to location, role, skill set, and level of experience. To remain competitive, GN offers a competitive benefits package, including annual bonuses, health insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off and paid holidays.
