Job Summary 

The Candler I is responsible for ensuring only high-quality eggs are processed on the production line. This role involves monitoring and removing poor quality eggs, including those with eggshells, rotten eggs, dirty eggs, and bloody eggs, as well as any foreign materials or inedible products. The position requires the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with fluctuating egg quality and speed. 

Essential Job Functions 

  • Monitor and remove poor quality eggs from the production line  
  • Ensure processed eggs meet or exceed USDA requirements  
  • Remove eggshells, bloody eggs, dirty eggs, and rotten eggs from the flow of edible product  
  • Identify and remove any foreign materials from the product flow  
  • Place dirty eggs onto flats for re-washing  
  • Notify plant manager/supervisor of excessive broken eggs or machine deficiencies  
  • Assist with clean-up activities and removal of inedible product  
  • Comply with USDA regulations, Good Manufacturing Practices, SQF, Safety Programs, Biosecurity Policies, Plant Procedures, HACCP, and Food Defense Programs  
  • Communicate effectively with plant supervisor, QC, USDA, and plant staff 
  • Help train and assist other team members as needed  
  • Other duties as assigned 

Required Qualifications 

  • 0-2 years of experience in a manufacturing or processing environment 
  • Ability to operate egg processing equipment 
  • Basic math skills for counting and measuring  
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions  
  • Hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity  
  • Attention to detail and quality consciousness  
  • Basic understanding of safety procedures in a food processing environment  
  • Ability to work effectively in a team  
  • Time management skills to maintain production pace 
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends and holiday hours as required based on production demand 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience 
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) 
  • Previous experience in food processing or egg handling 

Work Environment 

This position requires the physical ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs and perform tasks involving twisting and bending. The role demands the capacity to walk and stand for extended periods on various surfaces, as well as the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Set in an egg processing facility, the job may involve exposure to wet and slippery surfaces, necessitating caution and adherence to safety protocols. Additionally, the position may require familiarity with various biosecurity protocols and procedures, emphasizing the importance of maintaining hygiene and safety standards in food processing operations.
