The E Discovery Operations Specialist role is a non-attorney professional responsible for front-end intake, triage, and operational support for the firm’s eDiscovery matters. This role serves as the primary intake point for new matters, coordinates approvals and Statements of Work (SOWs), provides functional Relativity support, and manages small technology matters. The position is designed to improve efficiency, reduce administrative burden on eDiscovery attorneys, and enhance service to case teams and clients.
This role does not involve the practice of law or the provision of legal advice.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Matter Intake and Workflow Triage
- Serve as the first point of contact for new eDiscovery matters.
- Navigate the full eDiscovery lifecycle, including preservation, identification, collection, processing, review, and production.
- Identify and flag potential legal and technical challenges at intake (e.g., data sources, data volume, timelines, preservation risks, platform complexity).
- Assist the Senior Director of eDiscovery in assigning matters to the appropriate eDiscovery attorney based on complexity, experience, and workload.
- Maintain a customer-service-focused approach when interacting with case teams, attorneys, clients, and vendors.
Approvals and Statements of Work Coordination
- Obtain and track written approvals from insurance carriers (insured matters) or clients (non-insured matters) authorizing eDiscovery billing.
- Coordinate execution of Statements of Work (SOWs), including third-party vendor SOWs and internal JLID SOWs for technical services.
- Proactively follow up with case teams, carriers, clients, and vendors to secure required approvals and signatures.
- Maintain organized records of approvals and SOWs and route finalized documentation to the assigned eDiscovery attorney to authorize work to proceed.
- Serve as a point of contact for administrative and documentation-related eDiscovery inquiries.
Relativity Platform Support
- Provide functional support within Relativity.
- Perform basic troubleshooting and escalate complex technical or legal issues to eDiscovery attorneys or technical leadership as appropriate.
Project Management for Small Technology Matters
- Independently project manage small or low-complexity technology hosting matters.
- Coordinate timelines, deliverables, and communications with internal teams and vendors.
- Monitor progress and scope to ensure matters remain on track.
- Identify when issues require escalation to an eDiscovery attorney due to increased risk or complexity.
Initiative and Team Support
- Act as a self-starter who proactively identifies where operational or technical support is needed across the eDiscovery team.
- Anticipate workflow bottlenecks and recommend process improvements.
- Maintain consistent communication with attorneys and leadership.
- Contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the eDiscovery function.

For New York City metro area, the expected salary range for this position is between $59.10 hourly and $65.70 hourly. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
For Los Angeles Metro area, the expected salary range for this position is between $54.40 hourly and $60.40 hourly. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
