Job Summary:
The Civil Engineering Drafter will be drafting both 2D and 3D drawings, drafting standards and best practices. Your work will involve design/drafting of PV ground mount structures, and work with repeating patterns with variations in spatial locations in AutoCAD, involving data management for large files. You will use, and help develop, automated drafting tools within AutoCAD. You will collaborate with Civil Structural Engineers, Application Engineers, Sales, and 3rd party drafting firms to support presales, contracting and contracted projects. You will take on PV array layouts, takeoff count summaries, and review of 3rd party drafting work, in addition to translating structural designs into project drawings.
Key Job Responsibilities:
Produce detailed, accurate project drawings, site plan layouts, and CAD blocks, based on provided engineering specifications, using AutoCAD, Solidworks and Civil 3D.
Produce topographical slope analyses based on provided topographical contour data using QGIS software and Civil 3D.
Import SolidWorks drawings into AutoCAD and produce various orthographic, or angle views of the mechanical parts and components in AutoCAD.
Interpret structural design information provided by engineers and develop into drawings. Coordinate and consult with engineers and others on engineering details, design assumptions and resolve design or other problems.
Interpret customer provided inputs and create optimized site layouts considering boundaries, setbacks, constraints, and topography.
Support the creation and maintenance of templates, configurations, and library files used in both AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
Generation on the project-specific Bill Of Materials
Generation of layouts for the different ARRAY products
Interface with outside contracted drafting teams: review and help ensure template compliance, check / red-line drawings, etc. Check drawings and documents created by others for accuracy, correctness, and compliance.
Modify drawings per customer comments/feedback, and use customer feedback to develop drawing templates, notes, views etc.
Participate in developing and sustaining drafting standards.
Support various interdepartmental teams with drafting work.
Compute mathematical formulas to develop tools to support drafting work.
Check all output for accuracy.
Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Associate degree in Computer Aided Drafting, Design, mechanical engineering or similar
2+ years drafting design experience with AutoCAD, including repeating patterns with variation in spatial location, large data set management in AutoCAD
Working knowledge of interpreting topographical contours, and performing topographical analysis using software such as Civil 3D
Working knowledge of GIS (QGIS, ArcGIS), and SolidWorks
Working knowledge in Microsoft Excel and other MS software
Bilingual English/Spanish skills
Preferred qualifications:
Good mathematical skills, including trigonometry.
Ability to multitask, self-prioritize, and work in a fast paced, global company environment
Strong aptitude for researching and solving technical problems.
Experience in AutoCAD programming and automation
Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Ability to communicate effectively and work well with other drafters, 3rd parties, and engineers
Experience in the solar industry or wind industry
