OVERVIEW:

Explores and manipulates data, builds models, and employs other statistical methods to conduct advanced analysis to understand/predict relationships between variables and provide data driven insights to guide strategic business decisions.  

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Independently conduct exploratory statistics, mine and profile data to gain insights for use in advance statistical and quantitative analytics.
  • Compile and combine data from multiple datasets into one or more datasets for analysis with common programming languages.
  • Modify data warehouse as necessary; document and store approved code.  
  • Use common programming languages to conduct intermediate data manipulation and analysis with guidance from more senior team members. Track and report performance of portfolios/ campaigns. Identify deviations from expectations and explain variances.
  • Conduct intermediate quantitative analysis to understand and quantify business problems leveraging statistical methods.
  • Develop simple, but compelling visualizations to explore data.
  • Provide guidance to less experienced analysts.
  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.  Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  • Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis.  Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  • Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years of related experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 7 years higher education and/ or work experience, including a minimum of 3 years related experience
  • Familiarity with a common programming language  
  • Experience working in large databases
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
  • 4 or more years related work experience in data analysis
  • Intermediate skills in programming languages such as SQL, SAS, Python, Julia or Java 
  • Experience working with a statistical analysis software package
  • Experience with one or more cloud databases.
  • Experience working within an agile environment
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $85,800.00 - $143,000.00 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation. The range listed above corresponds to our national pay range for this role. The specific pay range applicable to you may vary based on your location.
