We are seeking a forward-thinking Director of Software Engineering to lead our Storefront and Mobile CX organization and own the strategy, architecture, and execution of mobile-first initiatives, including the development of web, native, and hybrid mobile applications. This role requires a hands-on technical leader with demonstrated full-stack web and mobile expertise and the ability to drive teams through the entire mobile and web development lifecycle, ensuring delivery excellence in a fast-paced, results-driven, and highly collaborative environment.
This role is ideal for a leader who thrives on impact, communicates effectively, develops talent, and is dedicated to delivering world-class customer experience platforms.
What You'll Do

  • Drive technical excellence: Provide hands-on technical leadership while influencing architecture, development practices, and operational standards across the organization.
  • Lead and grow a high-performing team: Recruit, mentor, and develop engineering leaders and individual contributors, fostering a sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Deliver a world-class web and mobile experience: Lead the development of a robust, hybrid application that enables a seamless customer journey.
  • Operationalize success metrics: Establish clear KPIs to measure engineering efficiency, Platform performance, and business impact.
  • Drive automation and process improvements: Champion best practices in web and mobile development, CI/CD, testing, and deployment.
  • Strategic road mapping & prioritization: Partner with cross-functional teams to develop and execute medium- and long-term web and mobile strategies.
  • Drive AI Innovation: Lead the company's effort in identifying and implementing AI for customer experience use cases.
  • Collaborate across the business: Establish and maintain strong relationships with key business and technical stakeholders to ensure technology aligns with enterprise goals.
  • Champion engineering best practices: Help evolve agile and lean methodologies at scale, promoting a culture of continuous improvement, testing, and reliable delivery.
  • Interface with the C-suite: Frequently communicate the technical vision to Chewy's senior leaders, including VP-level and C-level executives.

What You'll Need
  • Proven full-stack leadership in building and scaling storefront and hybrid mobile applications, with expertise in responsive and mobile first design for optimized mobile web experiences.
  • Strong experience with web and mobile frameworks for responsive, mobile-friendly web interfaces. Demonstrated ability to design and implement mobile-centric UX/UI experiences that align with platform-specific design standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality customer experiences that drive business results.
  • Must be a results-oriented problem solver and an analytical, visionary thinker.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to present and consult with all levels in a proactive and collaborative manner.
  • Ability to work well through ambiguity, make tough calls with confidence, and lead through adversity with a sharp focus on the right outcomes.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work and communicate effectively with senior leadership and engineering leaders.
  • 15+ years of experience building customer experiences across mobile and web technologies.
  • 10+ years of experience working with product, CX design, and research teams to identify requirements and deliver solutions that enable the business.
  • Experience managing both managers and senior engineering talent across cross-functional teams.
  • Startup experience with the ability to thrive in fast-paced, flat organizational structures.
  • BS or MS in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Modest travel may be required.

Bonus Points For
