Description

We are seeking an experienced finance and accounting value creation leader to support our portfolio companies on financial infrastructure, reporting quality, and operational rigor. This role partners directly with portfolio company CFOs and finance teams — through due diligence, integration and exit preparation — and serves as a trusted advisor and resource across the portfolio. This is an ideal role for a former PE-backed CFO with public accounting roots and finance transformation experience looking to broaden their impact across multiple companies rather than run a single finance organization.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as a hands-on finance and accounting resource across the portfolio, working directly with CFOs, controllers, and finance teams

• Partner with deal teams during diligence on finance organization, quality of earnings, accounting policy assessment, and post-close integration planning

• Lead 100-day finance function assessments post-close, identifying gaps in accounting infrastructure, systems, controls, and talent

• Advise portfolio companies on finance organization design, role definition, shared services, and process optimization to build scalable finance functions

• Drive implementation of scalable accounting processes, month-end close improvements, and audit readiness across portfolio companies

• Advise on technical accounting matters (revenue recognition, purchase accounting, carve-outs, add-on integrations)

• Strengthen balance sheet management, including working capital, liquidity and cash forecasting, capital structure, covenant compliance, and reporting quality

• Support ERP and finance systems selection and implementation decisions in coordination with portfolio management teams

• Standardize KPI reporting, budgeting, financial planning and management reporting processes across the portfolio

• Partner with portfolio company management teams to enhance internal financial and operational reporting and support the preparation of board materials

• Support coordination with audit, tax and other finance advisors, ensuring timely execution, issue resolution and alignment with portfolio company requirements

• Support recruiting and evaluation of portfolio company CFO and controller candidates, assess finance team bench strength, and help recruit and onboard finance leadership

• Provide interim finance leadership coverage during CFO transitions as needed

• Support portfolio companies with exit readiness, including financial reporting, controls and finance organization preparedness

• Collaborate with NewSpring's internal finance and investment teams on portfolio and fund reporting, audits, tax matters and other finance-related needs

• Lead Finance Value Creation summits and other forums to share best practices, strengthen finance capabilities and promote collaboration across the portfolio

Required Qualifications:

• 15-20 years of progressive finance and accounting experience

• Public accounting background (Big 4 or large regional firm) - CPA preferred

• Prior CFO role at a private equity-backed company and/or direct experience reporting to a PE sponsor and board

• Demonstrated experience scaling finance functions in a growth, transformation, or turnaround context

• Strong technical accounting knowledge (GAAP, purchase accounting, M&A-related accounting)

• Experience with ERP implementations and financial systems selection

• Comfort operating across multiple portfolio companies simultaneously, often in a non-executive advisory capacity

• Excellent communication skills - able to work effectively with deal teams, management teams, and boards

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in lower-middle market or middle market PE-backed businesses

• Prior transaction or diligence experience

• Track record supporting companies through successful exits (strategic sale, sponsor-to-sponsor)

• Industry vertical expertise within technology-enabled services

What This Role Offers:

• Broad exposure across a diverse portfolio of companies

• Direct partnership with deal teams and firm leadership on value creation strategy

• High-impact, non-desk-bound role with significant autonomy

• Compensation structure typically includes base, bonus, and potential carry participation
