SUMMARY
The Senior Director, HSE Client Services provides inspirational leadership and champions environmental, health and safety program management ensuring ongoing compliance to all internal and external requirements. The Senior Director will provide broad-based strategic support to the company’s various business units and act as a single point of contact for SVPs Client Service for HSE resources to fulfil both legislative and MSA requirements. The Senior Director is responsible for the provision of HSE talent to support HSE requirements of account MSAs, is the face of BGIS HSE for clients, and to ensure all HSE MSA requirements are understood and supported across Canada. The Senior Director will also provide strategic support for internal BGIS business units to ensure ongoing compliance with internal and external requirements (Workplace Solutions, Professional Services, etc.). Specifically, the Senior Director provides strategic leadership to Project Delivery Services as requested. The Senior Director will provide leadership and support to the BGIS ITS organization regarding case and claims management, onboarding, and safety programming to improve performance and engagement.
The Senior Director will develop talent with the creation of an internal talent pipeline and acquire external talent where required to match the account needs. The Senior Director will provide scorecards to account leads to measure the effectiveness of HSE systems and to support with trending and analysis of data to support decision making. The Senior Director facilitates implementation of HSE corporate activities by partnering with accounts to customize implementation plans to support and ensure smooth adaptation on each account. The Senior Director has financial responsibilities and will ensure financial resourcing is within budgeted allocations and that accounts are adequately supported.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
People Leadership
Demonstrates strong, competent leadership for team members to guide them in reaching their full potential and meeting their objectives, which supports achievement of our corporate goals. Develops a high performing team of HSE professionals, mentors and coaches, provides performance management and creates development plans accordingly for business succession across the HSE team.
Specifically, these responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Full involvement with recruiting talent.
- Provides mentoring, coaching and guidance to all team members.
- Objectively recommends compensation adjustments.
- Manages all aspects of performance.
- Creation of an internal talent pipeline and associated development plans for succession.
HSE Strategic Program Management
- Leads the implementation of internal HSE programs for assigned accounts.
- Provides resourcing for accounts in HSE support.
- Define HSE requirements, develop and assess options, implement solutions and monitor results in support of the client for all assigned accounts.
- Ensures compliance to client mandated HSE programs, ensuring all HSE SLA’s and KPI’s are met for assigned accounts.
- Collaborates with account teams to ensure all team members are provided with adequate tools and resources to ensure the safe execution of work.
- Collaborates and Coordinates program implementation and alignment across multiple geographies.
- Create, drive, monitor and take appropriate actions to achieve all targeted HSE objectives for all assigned accounts.
- Recommends continuous improvement opportunities, as well as adjustments to corporate processes and procedures in alignment with industry best practice where appropriate.
- Lead development of corporate programs as appropriate for implementation across BGIS.
- Ensure each account has full hazard /risk assessment and aspect /impact assessment in place.
- Lead BGIS response for regulatory issues involving Authority Having Jurisdiction across Canada.
- Liaise with industry concerned parties to ensure best practices are shared and adopted. Represent BGIS through concerned parties engagement.
- Represent Canadian Accounts when participating in Global initiatives across BGIS. Share best practices and resources with other regional HSE leads to drive efficiency and mitigate risk across the organization.
- Create HSE training material and programs in cooperation with the Training and Learning team, to support compliance across the Canadian business.
- Brings forward suggestions for AI solutions to HSE issues.
MSA / Contract Management
- Strategic review of MSA’s, partner with client accounts to find opportunities to add value and identify associated resource requirements.
- Lead development of funding model/gear ratio for HSE resourcing, apply said model for acquisitions to ensure right size resourcing.
- Lead the development of client scorecards, partner with account leaders so that risks are understood, mitigated and addressed within their organization.
Incident Investigation, Resolution & Reduction
- Leads the investigation and resolution of incidents for assigned accounts.
- Oversees and conducts root-cause analysis, identifies incident causes, and implements corrective and preventative measures strategically for all assigned accounts to prevent recurrence.
- For assigned accounts: Oversees and tracks, records, maintains and reports incident data. Identifies and analyzes trends in injury type and causal factors, create action plans based on analysis to mitigate risk down.
- Reviews, recommends and implements modifications to work plans, processes, procedures to reduce recurring incidents and improve environmental, health and safety performance.
- Lead, coach and influence to ensure all HSE Managers understand they are responsible for working with line management to address health and safety issues and document these non-conformance issues. The Director must ensure outstanding issues are corrected or escalated.
- Lead, coach and mentor HSE team members to support with active injury case management so that claims are mitigated down and time loss is kept to a minimum.
Communication & Training
- Delivers environmental, health and safety training to team members for all assigned accounts.
- Lead the deployment of environmental, health and safety communications to team members across Canada for all assigned accounts including customized toolbox talks.
- Lead escalation meetings and stand down / stand up meetings as required.
- Develops hazard and risk specific communication programs for the corporation and clients.
- Communicate program requirements, metrics and HSE internal and external expectations with account leads.
Governance and Compliance Management
- Supports BGIS registration to applicable environment, health and safety management systems such as ISO 14001, SGAP, COR, CAN/ CSA Z1000, OHSAS 18001 and ISO 45001 (2018).
- Participates in regulatory review process including assessment of impact.
- Participate in the Canadian Business Impact Analysis review and the annual corporate risk assessment review for the HSE Department. Ensure all Canadian risks are identified, and robust mitigation plans are in place.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- University degree in Science, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences.
- More than 15 years of environmental, health and safety program execution work experience. Experience in facilities management and working with facilities and project related MSAs is preferred.
- Expert level knowledge of environmental, health and safety regulatory requirements.
- Expert level knowledge of environmental, health and safety management systems – ISO 14001, CSA Z1000, OHSAS 18001.
- Advanced program management abilities.
- Advanced communication, influence and persuasion skills.
- Highly advanced ability to champion environmental, health and safety programs and influence concerned parties to achieve environmental, health and safety objectives.
- Ability to develop and deliver environmental, health and safety-related training.
- Skilled at incident investigation and resolution, root cause analysis along with preventative and corrective measure implementation

- Strong track record of developing a high performing team.
- Superior English writing and spoken. High level of working French preferred. Bilingual candidates will get preference.
Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation
Must have one or more of the following certifications:
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional from Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals or
- Certified Health & Safety Consultant from Canadian Society of Safety Engineering
- Certified Environmental Professional
This is a regular, full-time position with a salary range of $110,770 - $138,463 per annum. The starting salary will be based on the successful candidate’s competencies, including but not limited to experience, education and performance related to this role.
