Role Summary

The Executive Director, DevSecOps & Engineering Platform Tools will lead the strategy, engineering, modernization, and operation of enterprise platforms             supporting the software development lifecycle.

This leader will bring together engineering tools, delivery pipelines, and self-service automation into a cohesive platform ecosystem that improves developer experience, strengthens software supply chain controls, and advances Continuous Delivery. The role combines strategic direction with technical leadership and operational accountability, ensuring platforms are secure, resilient, cost-effective, and straightforward for engineering teams to adopt.

The successful candidate will build strong engineering teams, establish clear service ownership, and partner across application engineering, architecture, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and risk to translate enterprise priorities into reliable, reusable capabilities.

Primary Responsibilities

Enterprise Platform Strategy & Modernization

  • Define and execute the strategy and roadmap for DevSecOps platforms and engineering tools, balancing modernization, operational resilience, developer needs, and enterprise controls.

  • Manage the platform portfolio across source control, CI/CD, artifact management, software supply chain tooling, code quality, and associated engineering services.

  • Drive tool rationalization, lifecycle upgrades, and migration planning to reduce fragmentation, technical debt, and unsupported technology.

Delivery Engineering & Automation

  • Lead the engineering of reusable pipeline capabilities, integrations, and self-service workflows that simplify software delivery.

  • Establish standardized delivery paths that incorporate security, quality, approval, and evidence requirements without unnecessary manual intervention.

  • Partner with enterprise testing and application engineering leaders to enable automated, risk-based progression from code commit through production deployment.

Security & Software Supply Chain

  • Partner with cybersecurity and risk teams to embed approved security policies and controls into engineering platforms and delivery workflows.

  • Strengthen governance over repositories, dependencies, artifacts, access, credentials, and toolchain integrations.

  • Ensure platform vulnerabilities, control gaps, and audit findings are addressed through clear ownership and sustainable remediation.

Platform Reliability & Service Ownership

  • Own the operational health of platforms within the role’s remit, including availability, capacity, observability, recovery readiness, and support.

  • Establish service-level objectives, support models, escalation paths, and disciplined incident and problem management.

  • Drive automation and reusable operational patterns that reduce manual effort and improve consistency.

Developer Experience & Adoption

  • Treat engineering platforms as enterprise products, with clear service offerings, user feedback, adoption plans, and measurable outcomes.

  • Improve onboarding, documentation, support, and self-service access to reduce friction for engineering teams.

  • Partner with AI-enabled engineering initiatives to provide secure, governed integrations with the enterprise toolchain.

Leadership, Financial Management & Governance

  • Lead and develop engineering managers and technical teams, strengthening technical depth, accountability, and succession readiness.

  • Own portfolio prioritization, delivery commitments, resource planning, vendor relationships, and financial management.

  • Communicate platform health, delivery progress, risks, investment needs, and business value clearly to senior leadership.

  • Establish transparent measures of reliability, adoption, delivery efficiency, control effectiveness, and cost.

Qualifications Required

  • Significant experience leading enterprise DevSecOps, platform engineering, or software delivery tooling organizations.

  • Demonstrated success modernizing and operating business-critical engineering platforms at enterprise scale.

  • Strong technical understanding of source control, CI/CD, artifact repositories, software supply chain security, and automated delivery controls.

  • Experience establishing resilient platform services, lifecycle governance, and effective production support.

  • Proven ability to lead distributed engineering teams and deliver complex initiatives across organizational boundaries.

  • Experience managing budgets, vendors, licensing, and competing investment priorities.

  • Strong executive communication skills and the ability to connect technical decisions to delivery outcomes, cost, and risk.

Preferred

  • Experience in financial services or another highly regulated environment.

  • Experience with enterprise tools such as Jenkins/CloudBees, Bitbucket, GitHub Enterprise, Nexus, and security and code-quality platforms.

  • Experience with cloud-hosted engineering platforms, container-based delivery, and API-driven integration.

  • Experience enabling AI-assisted engineering through governed platform integrations.

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Role Boundaries

The role owns engineering platform services and delivery enablement. It partners with, rather than replaces, application delivery ownership, enterprise testing strategy, cybersecurity policy ownership, and infrastructure platform engineering. Detailed tool ownership and organizational boundaries should be finalized in the role charter.

Expected Outcomes

  • Reliable, secure, and well-supported engineering platforms.

  • Faster onboarding and less manual friction across delivery workflows.

  • Greater adoption of reusable pipelines and self-service capabilities.

  • Stronger software supply chain controls and automated evidence capture.
