Opportunity Overview:
We are seeking an exceptional Design Systems Designer to join our stellar design team. The ideal candidate for this role is an experienced product designer who is deeply passionate about scaling design through systems, fluent in modern workflows and tools (we’re an all-Figma-all-day team here), and energized by solving complex and challenging design and operational problems.
In this role, you will be a force multiplier for the entire product organization. You will design, maintain, and evolve our design system, ensuring it enhances the efficiency, consistency, quality, and accessibility of experiences across multiple product surfaces. Your work will empower designers, engineers, and product teams to ship value faster and more confidently, reducing friction and enhancing collaboration.
You bring strong knowledge of interaction patterns, visual design principles, accessibility standards, and component architecture. You know when to extend the system and when to keep it lean, and you are comfortable negotiating with engineers to maintain design and technical cohesion. This position will evolve into a hybrid design systems / product design role.
Most importantly, people who succeed here are empathetic teammates who are candid, kind, and caring—and embody our core values and principles. We believe that diverse and inclusive teams produce the most impactful work. Cohere is deeply committed to creating a supportive and growth-oriented environment that works for everyone
What you’ll do:
- Own and evolve the design system—tokens, components, patterns, documentation, and guardrails—across all Cohere products
- Refine existing components and design new systematic elements that scale across complex workflows, product areas, and user needs
- Partner closely with designers and engineers to ensure components are technically feasible, accessible, resilient, and high-quality
- Prototype interaction patterns to validate usability and component behavior across edge cases
- Maintain clear, organized documentation, examples, and usage recommendations to facilitate adoption
- Champion system standards and governance by contributing to accessibility, QA, change management, and release processes
- Support designers with onboarding, training, office hours, and design reviews that improve quality and consistency across the organization
- Collaborate with researchers to validate system decisions through usability studies, heuristics, and user/system feedback loops
- Push the system forward through continuous discovery—evaluating design tools, workflows, automation opportunities, and best practices
Required Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in software product design, with at least part of that time spent working on or heavily with a design system
- Experience designing components, tokens, and patterns in Figma for enterprise digital products (healthcare, fintech, analytics, or similarly complex domains is a plus)
- Track record of collaborating with cross-functional agile teams (PM, Eng, Design, Research, QA)
- Strong interaction and visual design foundations, with a deep understanding of accessibility and responsive behavior
- Familiarity with frontend technologies (Google’s Material Design, React, HTML/CSS, Design Tokens standards) to collaborate effectively with engineers
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design, HCI, Human Factors, or equivalent experience
- A portfolio or case studies demonstrating design systems work: components, tokens, patterns, documentation, rationale, tooling, governance, and real adoption impact
- Clear, concise English communication skills and ability to articulate system decisions to designers, engineers, and senior stakeholders (our team is primarily located in the U.S. and Hyderabad).
- Strong conceptual thinking that balances user needs, product strategy, engineering constraints, and long-term scalability
Ability to commute/relocate:
Nacharam, Hyderabad, Telangana*: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Preferred)
Interview Process*:
