Applications are invited from motivated and innovative candidates to fill the position of Data Visualization Specialist within the Business Analysis & Intelligence Team. The Data Visualization Specialist is a senior technical role that works closely with business areas and technical teams to turn data into intuitive, insightful, and functional visualization solutions.
Your responsibilities:
- Coordinate and lead tasks during the definition, planning, and implementation of solutions.
- Author, review, approve, and facilitate the creation of deliverables throughout the project lifecycle such as proposals, business cases, use cases, project charters, conceptual designs, detailed designs, and test plans.
- Create and/or guide in the creation of data visualization solutions.
- Establish and maintain WCB Power BI modelling and development guidelines and standards. This includes ongoing monitoring, enhancements, and oversight of adherence by developers.
- Develop and maintain a Quality Assurance process to ensure the ongoing quality and accuracy of our visualization solutions. This includes oversight and management of the execution of the process.
- Mentor peers and junior Business Intelligence (BI) analysts in the development of data visualization solutions; with emphasis on data models, Power BI, DAX, SSIS, Power Query and visualization techniques.
- Establish training plans to develop staff competencies in the methods and tools used in data visualization.
- Work with leadership to establish strategies for evolving the data visualization practice.
Your Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, commerce, business management, or demonstrable equivalent.
- Seven years of experience in a complex business or IT environment. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Excellent verbal and written communication especially relating to consultation and presentations held at a leadership level.
- Strong analytical, listening, verbal, and written skills to define business needs into business intelligence solutions.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to facilitate, lead, teach, and resolve issues.
- Advanced decision making, problem solving, and investigative skills.
- Outstanding conceptual and analytical skills, business acumen and a strong attention to detail.
- Extensive Experience in data visualization for data storytelling, analysis, and reporting; using Power BI.
- In-depth SQL in-depth experience through querying, extraction, and ETL.
- An extensive background with data warehousing, BI reporting, data architecture, and data modeling.
- Strong knowledge cloud computing including Azure Data Factory, Data Brickbricks, and Lake House concepts.
- Strong skills in modelling concepts and the development of quality and performant models to support data visualization.
- Understanding of BI concepts and business drivers; with an ability to envision how a suite of enterprise reporting tools can be used to better serve the business.
- Solid understanding of data science and machine learning concepts.
- Advanced understanding of agile and waterfall project management and organizational change management.
- Acts independently and manages his/her own work with an ability to perform well within a team, along with a demonstrated drive to deliver to a high standard.
- A deep passion for making a difference in the lives of Albertans by bringing innovative technology to WCB.
- Knowledge of WCB’s business or insurance and information systems would be an asset.

Salary: Salary will be evaluated based on candidate’s skills and experience.
Salary range: $89,984 to $109,485 annually (Salary Grade 12, includes Market Supplement)
