The role & impact
As a Data Scientist in the Data & Science team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality science, analytics, and insights frameworks to enable fast decision-making and strategic design. You will play an integral role in supporting insights and leading the requirements capture, data collection, and storytelling that empowers Xero to deliver successful digital and product outcomes.
By immersing yourself in vast data stores, you will wrangle complex data to build a shared understanding of its quality and usability. Your work in conducting experiments, generating hypotheses, and developing data assets will directly inform and motivate customer behaviour while shaping our global product and marketing strategy.
The team & how they connect
The Data & Science team is responsible for empowering Xero to understand current trends, the customer landscape, and digital performance. We work as a coordinated team, collaborating across all functions to provide the information needed to understand customer engagement, retention, and personalisation.
The team is currently working on
Our current tech stack includes SQL, Python, Big Query, and visualisation tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
We are currently utilising digital and web data from Google Analytics and Mixpanel to improve the quality of our products and processes.
A major focus involves feeding insights back to our Data Engineering teams to improve instrumentation and data coverage of our customer data.
We are constantly exploring the ethical application of data science to ensure our code is developed with the best interests of our users in mind.

Here are some of the things we are looking for
Advanced knowledge of SQL for data extraction and manipulation, alongside solid Python skills for analysis.
Your background includes experience with digital or tech industry data, specifically using tools like Google Analytics, Mixpanel, or Big Query.
You have a proven ability to tackle unfamiliar domains and work with complex, diverse datasets to find actionable insights.
You possess the skill to present complex analysis to stakeholders in a simple, visual, and compelling way.
A deep understanding of experimentation design, testing, and statistical knowledge is part of your toolkit.
You thrive when given objectives and goals with loose guidelines, showing the flexibility to change opinions based on data.
