We make health happen: The Data & AI Governance Lead will work with both Business and IT stakeholders to ensure comprehensive BG’s delivery against our BGIUK Data Governance and RAI
Policies and frameworks to determine the scope, controls and implementation pathways for Bupa Global. The role holder will work with IT and business partners to develop and deliver Data and AI Governance solutions (policy, technology, process, and organisation) that satisfy the
requirements. The Data & AI Governance Lead will work within the Transformation and Change function, reporting into the Head of Data.
How you’ll help us make health happen:
- You will lead Data Governance and AI reporting, responding to internal and external requests while managing associated risk registers.
- You will define, implement, and maintain the Data & AI Governance Framework, establishing policies and standards across data quality, metadata, privacy, and lifecycle management, aligned to regulatory and business requirements.
- You will own the Data Governance Operating Model, defining roles across data owners and stewards and embedding effective processes for stewardship, issue resolution, and change management.
- Driving data quality will be a key focus, including defining KPIs, implementing monitoring and reporting, and working with stakeholders to resolve issues. You will also oversee metadata and data cataloguing, ensuring accurate definitions, lineage, and classifications.
- You will manage data access, privacy, and compliance, working closely with security teams, while promoting data literacy through training and guidance across the organisation.
- You will support strategic data initiatives, ensuring governance is embedded from design through to delivery. You will produce reporting on data health, quality, and compliance, presenting insights to senior stakeholders.
- You will define and maintain the AI Governance and Responsible AI Frameworks, ensuring safe and ethical AI use.
- You will oversee AI risk management, identifying and mitigating risks such as bias, data leakage, and model vulnerabilities, and conducting risk assessments for AI use cases. You will also manage the AI risk register and governance processes.
- You will lead cross-functional governance forums, bringing together stakeholders across Legal, Security, Data, and Product. You will continuously improve governance processes, controls, and reporting to support effective risk management and decision-making.
Key Skills / Qualifications needed for this role:
- Demonstrable experience in Data and AI Governance, with a solid understanding of frameworks, policies, and best practices.
- First-class stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and influence at all levels of the organisation.
- Proven experience in risk management, with the ability to identify, assess, and mitigate risks effectively.
- Experience working with controls, including the design, implementation, and ongoing assurance of governance and risk frameworks.
- Hands-on experience developing, implementing, or working with data management and governance tools.
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to present complex concepts clearly both verbally and in writing.
- Experience within regulated Financial Services is preferred, ideally within Insurance.
- A background working with data, AI, or data governance is essential, alongside the ability to clearly demonstrate prior experience in risk or governance-focused roles.
