The Role

The Lancer/Core Specialty Actuarial team is looking for an individual to join our Commercial Auto Division as a Data Analyst. This individual will be responsible for development and maintenance of periodic reports, including those concerning key performance indicators and key risk indicators, helping to synthesize and shape key messages and to deliver action insights to stakeholders.

This is a Hybrid role and you be would expected to work out of our Long Beach, NY office on a regular schedule.

Key Accountabilities/Deliverables:

  • Maintain and perpetuate an organization culture that abides by the company’s core values and that attracts and retains high-level talent.

  • Standardize ad hoc processes and drive continuous improvement for automating and optimizing performance of ongoing processes, including development of data processing pipelines.

  • Extract data from various sources and transform that data to perform analysis and create actionable visualizations.

  • Transform and update data gathering process from current systems to new data environment.

  • Help Others Succeed: Act as a key contributor in resolving complex or expediated requests, where end-to-end ownership and analytical skills are needed to provide a solution.

  • Use a variety of applications and technologies to answer both simple and complex questions.

  • Provide support to other Analytics areas, such as FP&A, Actuarial, Accounting, Claims, Programs and others as needed.


Technical Knowledge and Understanding:

  • Experience and/or aptitude in data and data manipulation tools such as Power BI, SQL, Analyst Python, R Studio, Alteryx, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Fabric/One Lake.

  • Ability to convert raw data into usable and visualized representations that convey understanding and/or enables accurate execution of needed action.

  • Functional knowledge, aptitude and understanding of basic data/analytics principles: One to many relationships, many to many relationships, reuse and linkage, data quality, validation data modeling and more.

  • Intellectual curiosity: Seeking understanding of the answers to, whys of data. Uncovering patterns in data and visuals that some might take for granted and researching. Looking for trends and outliers that may be actionable.

  • Openness to grow and change: the Company is in its infancy regarding next gen data and analytics. Will need to be agile, willing to lean new techniques and tools with us as we grow.

  • Candor: Openness to providing and receiving constructive feedback to facilitate both individual development as well as elevating the overall capabilities of the Company

  • Communication skills: Willingness to ask questions to gain understanding; collaborate effectively both with direct colleagues as well as those in other functional areas; ability to influence and gain buy-in from key stakeholders

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an analytical, or related, field: Management Information Systems, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Actuarial Science

  • 1-3 years relevant working experience

  • Demonstrated track record of achievement on relevant projects


The expected pay range for the role is $80,000 - $90,000. The specific offer will depend on an applicant’s skills and experiences. The disclosed pay range estimate may also be adjusted for the applicable geographic differential for the location in which the position is filled.
