The Role

Are you a skilled creative writer with a nose for news and a passion for storytelling? The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC), a news organization with a rich 150-year history of journalism, seeks a Creative Copywriter II. The AJC's mission is to be the most essential and engaging source of news and information for the people of Atlanta, of Georgia and the South. Collaborating closely with Performance Marketing, Brand Marketing, and our leads in social, product and the newsroom, the Creative Copywriter II will bring marketing stories to life across digital and print platforms. In this role, you will:

  • Work on your own as well with other members of the creative team (copywriters, art directors, designers, creative directors and project managers) to develop creative concepts and ideas for marketing campaigns and promotions.


  • Collaborate with internal teams to understand project requirements, strategies, target audiences and marketing objectives.


  • Ask the right questions and, if needed, reach out to partners to gather information and insights relevant to each project.


  • Manage multiple, concurrent projects and activities.


  • Be flexible, understanding that work can be impacted by shifts in demands and priorities. You will keep your team informed on progress and blockers.


  • Deliver high-caliber work that's on strategy and on time.


  • Edit and proofread copy, even if it's not yours, to ensure accuracy, consistency and adherence to brand guidelines.


  • Assist with other marketing initiatives and projects as needed.


You have:

  • Experience writing clear, concise and compelling copy for acquisition marketing, customer retention and brand advertising.


  • An online portfolio that shows your work writing for websites, organic social, paid social, email, brand campaigns, radio/podcast ads, video, product launches, OOH, experiential and/or events. If you can write for UX, that's a bonus.


  • An ability to listen to, synthesize and iterate on feedback.


  • A sense of curiosity and like to stay up to date on industry trends, competitive practices and emerging technologies.


  • No problem being proactive and thinking ahead.


  • A level of comfort working in a startup environment and agency settings.


  • A good sense of humor.


  • Already thought of a few ways to rewrite this job post so it's shorter and punchier.

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and 2 years' experience in a related field. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master's degree and up to 2 years' experience; or 6 years' experience in a related field.


USD 54,200.00 - 81,400.00 per year
Compensation:
Compensation includes a base salary of $54,200.00 - $81,400.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.
Benefits:
The Company offers eligible employees the flexibility to take as much vacation with pay as they deem consistent with their duties, the company's needs, and its obligations; seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year; and up to 160 hours of paid wellness annually for their own wellness or that of family members. Employees are also eligible for additional paid time off in the form of bereavement leave, time off to vote, jury duty leave, volunteer time off, military leave, and parental leave.
