Summary of the profile:

• The role is part of the IBS (India, Bangladesh & Sri Lanka) Legal & Compliance Team. So closely liaise and coordinate with the Area Legal & Compliance team as well as Regional Team in order to ensure a seamless and efficient coordination and interaction on all matters relevant for the Region.

• As an individual contributor actively promote and defend the legal interests of A.P. Moller-Maersk and advise its local management on important legal and compliance matters;

• Act as an embedded partner supporting the business operations of Maersk and help them achieving the objectives while being involved from start to finish in relevant matters related to legal and compliance;

• We are looking for a proactive business partner for local management and commercial functions, where you will be flagging risks with a commercial and pragmatic approach towards problem solving. Your initiatives to improve legal support and business outcomes will be greatly valued.

Job description:

• Responsible for safeguarding Maersk’s values, interests and reputation.

• Work with business stakeholders including senior management to identify, assess and mitigate legal implications and potential risks to the business.

• Drafting, vetting, negotiating various strategic and non-strategic commercial agreements, with either domestic or international customers, suppliers, or industrial cooperation partners, including potential claim management and dispute resolution.

• Supporting and advising on strategic growth and other projects and investments in Bangladesh 

• Responsible for handling and overseeing material litigation (if any) and for engaging and managing of external legal counsel, including legal budget.

• Proactively identify and address legal issues in a pragmatic and risk-based manner.

• Provide training to (non-legal) colleagues on relevant topics such as commercial contracting.

• Working effectively with other departments and functions such as Finance, Tax, Compliance, HR, etc.

• Implement, monitor and continuously improve Maersk’s compliance system and ensure that compliance is part of the standard business processes in line with Maersk’s overall Values, rules and policies;

• Responding and liaising with government authorities;

• Planning and implementing CSR Policy in compliance with the local laws. 

• Solely responsible for Secretarial Compliance including but not limited to Convening Board & Shareholders meetings and filing of Statutory returns with appropriate authorities.

Requirements

• Who we are looking for: LLB / Master of Laws or equivalent university qualification from a reputed University. A qualified lawyer of Supreme Court of Bangladesh and /or a Barrister -at – law will be an added advantage.

• Around 8 to 10 years of relevant legal experience in private practice and/or as in-house counsel, with experience in logistics and/or shipping considered as a strong advantage. 

• Ability to effectively and efficiently manage different internal and external stakeholders, including management, commercial and operational colleagues, government officials, external lawyers, joint venture partners and customers.

• Ability to work independently and to manage a dynamic workload under deadline pressure.

• Solid understanding of the business environment and the ability to provide high-quality legal advice with a view on finding pragmatic solutions for the business.

• Legal skills enabling the individual to work independently with remote
  supervision. Can manage complex projects in a changing environment.

• Strong Communication Skills in English

• Integrity, and strong sense of business ethics.
