Corporate Vice President - Data Protection & Data Risk Management Lead
Role Overview:
The Data Protection & Data Risk Management Lead plays a key role in advancing New York Life's data governance, data protection & data risk management initiatives. This hands-on engineering team leader role focuses on the design, development and execution of NYL's data protection & data risk management/mitigation strategy, platforms & frameworks.
This position would lead a team of data governance analysts and engineers and collaborate with product managers, technology teams, data owners/steward from the business, data security team, risk, legal & compliance to deliver capabilities like data scanning for PII/PHI detection, data protection using tokenization/masking and data risk measurement, monitoring and mitigation, using platforms such as Atlan, DataBricks, Anomalo, Securiti.ai & other DSPM tools etc.
The key business outcomes that this position will drive are:• Engineering solution development for compliance with relevant regulatory data protection guidelines for our democratized enterprise data lakes• Roll-out of data risk taxonomy and risk measurement/reporting framework to ensuring data risks are appropriately measured & mitigated.
What You'll Do:• Define and drive the data protection strategy for NYL's democratized enterprise data lakes in AWS (RedShift, DataBricks) & GCP (BigQuery, PostgreSQL), for both structured & unstructured data.• Lead the design and implementation of data protection algorithms, platforms, processes & workflows.• Collaborate with business data owners, stewards, data product managers, SMEs from Risk & Compliance, and data engineers to drive alignment on data protection goals and adoption of data protection tools and processes.• Monitor deviations and follow-up on remediations• Define a framework for measuring, monitoring and reporting of enterprise-wide Data Risk. Deliver a Data Risk mitigation program to ensure data risks are within control.• Drive social events like roadshows, lunch and learns, training sessions, user enablement/onboarding sessions.• As the Product Owner, participate in and lead the Agile ceremonies by owning the product backlog, managing the deliveries and soliciting/acting on customer feedback.
What You'll Bring:• 15+ years of professional experience, including 10+ years in a data protection or data engineering function, as hands-on leader.• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.• Strong understanding of data protection frameworks, tagging, data risk measurement and metadata management concepts, for both structured & unstructured data.• Proven ability to translate business needs into governance policies, standards, and workflows.• Product owner / product management skills to drive user engagement & product adoption.• Excellent communication and collaboration skills and experience working across business and technical teams.• Familiarity with data warehousing, SQL, data analysis and data modeling concepts.
Required Skills:• Hands-on experience with data protection tools - prior experience with leading rollouts for data protection routines for PII/PHI structured & unstructured data with be a stand-out skill.• Familiarity with data catalog, quality and observability tools.• Experience applying data protection frameworks, PII/PHI scanning & remediation and data risk measurement & reporting processes.• Working in Agile environments as a Product Owner, using Jira, Confluence, and SharePoint.
Preferred Skills:• Prior experience with DSPM initiatives will be a stand-out skill.• Exposure to the AWS/GCP cloud stack, DataBricks, Atlan & Anomalo• Exposure to AI-enabled data protection accelerators, metadata management etc.• Experience driving/supporting data warehousing, data modernization or cloud migration initiatives in enterprise settings.
Pay Transparency
Salary Range: $147,500-$211,000
Overtime eligible: Exempt
Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes
Sales bonus eligible: No
Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual's experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
