Job Description

As a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs Communications team, you'll help tell the story of one of the world's most iconic hockey brands. Working alongside Communications, Hockey Operations, Digital Content and Broadcasting, you'll play an important role in supporting media coverage, game-day operations, player communications, publications and storytelling across the season.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-performance environment, enjoys building relationships with media, and has a passion for hockey, communications and delivering exceptional service.

What You'll Do

  • Support all day-to-day media relations activities for the Toronto Maple Leafs throughout the NHL season. 
  • Assist in producing and maintaining game notes, media guides, statistical packages, player biographies and other team publications with exceptional accuracy and attention to detail. 
  • Coordinate game-day media operations, including credential management, press box preparation, media workroom logistics and post-game interview coordination. 
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for accredited media before, during and after practices, games and special events. 
  • Assist with media availabilities involving players, coaches and hockey operations staff, ensuring smooth execution and professional experiences. 
  • Monitor daily media coverage and social conversation, preparing timely media monitoring reports, news summaries and communication briefings for club leadership. 
  • Support the development and distribution of press releases, media advisories, feature materials and other communications assets. 
  • Collaborate with Digital Content, Social Media and Broadcast teams to ensure consistent messaging across earned, owned and shared channels. 
  • Assist with NHL events including Training Camp, NHL Draft, Development Camp, Rookie Camp, Preseason, Stanley Cup Playoffs and league initiatives. 
  • Maintain media databases, distribution lists and historical team archives. 
  • Help coordinate interviews, feature opportunities and long-form storytelling with local, national and international media. 
  • Utilize communications technology and AI-assisted tools to improve research, transcription, media monitoring and workflow efficiency while maintaining editorial accuracy. 
  • Track media coverage, sentiment and earned media performance, providing reports and insights that help measure communications impact. 
  • Support special events, community initiatives, alumni programming and organizational announcements as required. 
  • Perform additional communications and hockey operations support as assigned. 

What You'll Bring

  • University or college degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Sports Management or a related discipline. 
  • 2 years of experience in media relations, sports communications, journalism or public relations. 
  • Outstanding writing, editing and proofreading skills with exceptional attention to detail. 
  • Strong understanding of NHL hockey, statistics and league operations. 
  • Excellent knowledge of the Canadian and North American sports media land.
  • Ability to remain calm, organized and professional while managing multiple competing priorities under tight deadlines. 
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusted relationships with media, players, executives and internal partners. 
  • Strong digital literacy with experience using Microsoft 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop and Acrobat preferred). 
  • Experience with media monitoring and communications platforms such as Meltwater, Cision or similar tools is considered an asset. 
  • Familiarity with social media publishing, digital storytelling and analytics platforms. 
  • Comfortable leveraging AI-powered productivity tools responsibly to support research, transcription, content preparation and workflow efficiency. 
  • Highly organized, proactive and solutions-oriented with excellent judgment and discretion. 
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays and travel with the team when required. 
  • Bilingualism is considered an asset. 
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
