What you bring to SBHG:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in public health, Social Work, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).

Experience & Qualifications

  • Proposal & RFP Management: Proven track record of developing successful government proposals and RFP responses, with strong project management skills to lead end-to-end proposal development (requirement tracking, reviewer coordination, version control, and final readiness reviews).
  • Behavioral Health Domain Expertise: Preferred experience writing proposals for California-based behavioral health and mental health programs, particularly those integrated with social services, child welfare, juvenile justice, education, housing, and crisis services.
  • Writing & Communication: Exceptional writing, editing, organizational, and communication skills to produce clear, persuasive content under tight deadlines while managing multiple priorities, draft cycles, and stakeholder feedback.
  • Information Gathering & Compliance: Skilled at gathering programmatic, operational, and financial data from internal teams, ensuring strict adherence to funder requirements, and auditing narratives against RFPs, amendments, Q&A releases, and scoring rubrics to maximize competitiveness.
  • Technical & AI Tool Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Word and collaborative document review workflows, with hands-on ability to leverage AI-supported proposal tools—effectively verifying, customizing, and aligning AI content to maintain SBHG’s organizational voice while safeguarding sensitive organizational and client data.

The Contract Grant Writer develops persuasive, compliant RFP responses and grant applications for county behavioral health programs across California. Working in a fast-paced environment, this consultant collaborates closely with executive leaders, clinical teams, finance, and regional administrators to articulate SBHG’s program models, staffing strategies, service outcomes, and community partnerships. Ideal candidates bring proven experience crafting competitive proposals for wraparound, inpatient, outpatient, school-based, and community behavioral health services, often leveraging and adapting existing proposal frameworks to meet strict funder requirements.
