Le ou la candidat(e) idéal(e) possède une compréhension intuitive du rythme, du flux et des mécaniques fondamentales qui font le succès d'une grande expérience d'action. Vous vous épanouissez dans un rôle proche du design de jeu, en collaborant activement et en itérant avec les concepteurs pour élever la qualité globale du projet. Nous recherchons une personne désireuse d'assumer un large éventail de tâches — allant bien au-delà de la simple configuration d'arènes et du positionnement d'ennemis pour façonner et sublimer l'expérience globale du joueur. De plus, vous êtes fonctionnellement bilingue (français et anglais) et disponible pour un horaire hybride, impliquant une présence sur site au moins deux jours par semaine.
ResponsabilitésDéfinir, en collaboration avec les Game et Level Designers, les barèmes et standards des arènes pour mettre en valeur les mécaniques de combat et les ennemis.
Identifier et peaufiner les paramètres de design qui dictent le rythme et l’évolution des combats.
Concevoir et assembler dans l'engin des arènes de combat de haute qualité servant de référence (benchmark) pour le reste du jeu.
Expérimenter avec les mécaniques et les compositions d’ennemis pour identifier les meilleures synergies et les angles morts, tout en itérant activement avec l'équipe Game Design.
Assurer la conception et la construction de niveaux complets lors du passage en phase de production, en appliquant les standards établis.
Documenter les meilleures pratiques de conception d’arènes et les partager avec l’équipe pour élever la qualité globale.
Expérience : 7 ans d'expérience en tant que concepteur.trice dans l'industrie du jeu vidéo, avec au moins deux titres multiplateformes livrés de la préconception à la certification.
Expertise technique : Expérience approfondie avec Unreal Engine 4 ou 5.
Passion pour le genre : Joueur.euse actif.ve et passionné.e par la création de jeux d'action, particulièrement les jeux de tir (shooters), avec une compréhension intuitive de ce qui rend un combat mémorable.
Logistique et langues : Bilinguisme fonctionnel (français et anglais). Disponibilité pour un travail en mode hybride (minimum de deux jours par semaine au studio).

What We Are Looking ForGearbox Studio Québec is seeking a passionate and collaborative Senior Level Designer (Encounters) who lives and breathes action games, specifically shooters. The ideal candidate possesses an intuitive understanding of the pacing, flow, and core mechanics that define great action experiences. You thrive in a role that sits close to game design, eagerly collaborating and iterating alongside Game Designers to elevate the overall project. We are looking for someone who desires a broad scope of work, going well beyond basic arena layouts and enemy placements to actively shape and enhance the game's design. Additionally, you are functionally bilingual in French and English and are available for a hybrid work schedule, spending at least two days a week on-site at our studio.
ResponsibilitiesDefine, in collaboration with Game and Level Designers, the metrics and standards for combat arenas to best showcase combat mechanics and enemies.
Identify and fine-tune the design parameters that dictate combat pacing, flow, and progression.
Design and build high-quality combat arenas in-engine to serve as benchmarks for the rest of the game.
Experiment with mechanics and enemy compositions to identify the best synergies and blind spots, while actively iterating with the Game Design team.
Take ownership of the design and creation of levels during the production phase, applying the established standards.
Document best practices for arena design and share them with the team to elevate overall quality.
Experience: 7 years of experience as a designer in the video game industry, with at least two multiplatform titles shipped from pre-production to certification.
Technical Expertise: In-depth experience with Unreal Engine 4 or 5.
