Overview of Position

Reporting to the Compliance Manager, the Compliance Specialist will have responsibilities for compliance activities supporting Assurant Canada’s business lines.  Candidates should have strong analytical and critical thinking skills, specifically as related to legislative and regulatory analysis and impact assessments. Experience or familiarity with creditor insurance and inclusive insurance benefits products would be an asset.

What will my duties and responsibilities be in this job?

  • Conduct compliance and distribution oversight activities of Creditor/ Inclusive insurance products;

  • Monitor and assess legislative and regulatory developments; providing updates to Compliance team and the business line (including but not limited to creditor insurance, Environmental Social Governance, Artificial Intelligence, Privacy);

  • Handle privacy matters related to Canadian privacy legislation and regulations, including initial investigation, analysis, recommendations and response to privacy access requests and complaints, working with the Canadian Privacy Officer and Assurant Global Privacy Office as needed;

  • Review and update of existing and drafting (as needed) of Assurant Canada Compliance policies and procedures,

  • Contribute to Compliance Reports to the Chief Agent for Assurant Canada and senior management;

  • Engage with and coordinate Assurant Enterprise on initiatives, policies and procedures as related to the Canadian Branch Office for ABIC and ABLAC; and

  • Review Marketing/other collateral for applicable creditor insurance and inclusive insurance benefits business lines.

With oversight and direction of the Compliance Manager, the Compliance Specialist may also be involved in other activities including, as needed or necessary:

  • Enterprise Projects. E.g. Participation and supporting business in AI projects/ matters, participation in AI Legal & Compliance Governance calls;

  • Assist in maintenance of certain provincial insurance licensing/ registration requirements.

  • Provide assistance in regard to Assurant Canada’s Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) Program e.g. Privacy;

  • Filing emails and records of our day-to-day projects/ work initiatives.; and

Assist with other compliance initiatives/activities as directed.

What are the requirements needed for this position?

Education:

  • University degree or equivalent post-secondary academic background

Experience:

  • 2+ years of experience in compliance, risk, quality assurance or similar role    

  • 2+ years of experience within a financial institution, insurance preferred

Knowledge of:

  • Regulators and the regulatory environment for financial services in Canada

  • Federal and provincial insurance acts and regulations

  • Federal and provincial privacy legislation and regulations

Pay Range:

$60,200.00 - $99,300.00

Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
