Position Summary

This is an above-market role with 60% support for the UK/Affiliate and 40% support for live field and transactional monitoring and global compliance risk assessments across the Europe Region.

Responsible for leading Compliance & Ethics operations in UK/Ireland and effectively promoting the culture of integrity in the affiliate. 

Partner with stakeholders across the affiliate (including the Code Governance team) and serve as a member of the affiliate’s leadership team.

Responsible for conducting live field and transactional monitoring across the Europe Region, with a focus on cross-border engagements and other moderate to high-risk exposure activities.

Key Responsibilities
UK/Affiliate Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive annual compliance work plan for the United Kingdom and Ireland responsive to new business strategies, initiatives and ongoing market operations.
  • Сo-Chair the Compliance Committee with the affiliate’s General Managers.
  • Promote the right tone throughout the organization and, working with the Code Governance team and the affiliate leadership team, ensure a steadfast commitment by all employees to integrity, quality, compliance, and uncompromising ethics.
  • Partner and create synergy with the affiliate Regulatory Law team to provide high quality advice and service to the market business operations.
  • Drive local market implementation of BMS Global Compliance and Ethics program initiatives. 
  • Develop and implement new product/indication compliance assurance roadmap for launches in the UK/IE affiliate.
  • Ensure compliance oversight for certain procedures, education, training/strategic communications, and monitoring & analytics in close cooperation with the Code Governance team and the global C&E Organization.
  • Lead the affiliate’s risk assessments and participate in internal audits, monitoring and due diligence activities and, as appropriate, coordinate execution of follow-up actions.
  • Maintain working knowledge of local industry codes and regulations as well as government enforcement actions to identify and mitigate potential compliance risks.

Europe Region Monitoring & Risk Assessment Responsibilities

  • Lead development of the quarterly live and transactional monitoring plan for the Europe Region in partnership with the VP, Europe Region Compliance & Ethics and the Executive Director of Global Monitoring & Remediation in the Risk Operations and Intelligence Center of Excellence.
  • Conduct live and transactional monitoring of external engagement activities across the Region and generate live insight reports for incorporation into the Compliance & Ethics Central Nervous System and action by the applicable affiliate compliance lead.  
  • Partner with the C&E ROI COE to compile the annual monitoring insights, response and impact report for the Europe Region.
  • Partner with the Executive Director, Global Risk Assessments and Insights in the C&E ROI COE to develop and implement the risk assessment protocol for the Europe Region.
  • Represent BMS (speaker) at Europe Region summits and conferences focused on anti-corruption monitoring and risk assessment.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 8 plus years’ experience in a pharmaceutical compliance role, with demonstrable experience leading field-based monitoring activities/teams and conducting compliance risk assessments.
  • Thorough working knowledge of the ABPI and IPHA codes required
  • Expert ability to influence senior leaders (General Managers and Executive Level) and partner cross-functionally to provide practical and solution-oriented compliance guidance.
  • Expert communication and interpersonal relationship skills with a demonstrated ability to support multiple elements of a comprehensive compliance program.
  • Effective strategic-thinking skills with an ability to identify and recommend process improvements and best practices.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects under deadline pressure with flexibility to work on a broad range of matters.
  • Language requirements
    • English fluency is required.
    • Fluency in one or more Central or Eastern European languages (Polish, Czech, Hungarian or Romanian) is required. 
    • Polish language fluency strongly preferred.

  • Travel requirements:  Significant travel across the Europe Region (approximately 40% of the time)
