SUMMARY OF THE ROLE
As the CFD Expert you will contribute to understanding the skin-friction drag in a turbulent flow around a ship. You will work together with an experimental hydrodynamicist and surface scientist to ensure focused research efforts. This includes identifying respective surface properties using computational fluid dynamics on different scales and upscaling experimental results to full ship scale. You will furthermore support experimental validation. You will also contribute to cross-functional R&D projects, developing such surfaces on a large scale, to ensure that the potential of the surface effects is realized in the most efficient way.
You will contribute professionally, internally and externally as CFD expert and support hydrodynamic challenges, ensuring the overall goals of the R&D department are achieved. This position will be part of an interdisciplinary team with the main objective to identify and develop low friction surface solutions for ship owners, leading to lower fuel consumption, reduced operational costs and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
The department you will be working in a large team of people with diverse backgrounds and nationalities and is responsible for the development and in-service performance of anti-fouling products for the world-wide market. The department has access to a high standard measurement equipment park including hydrodynamic testing. You will be mainly working in a team of 5 people but will act as an expert within the whole department and be included also in department overlapping functions.

What We Do
Jotun is one of the leading paint manufacturers in the world. With a wide range of products within interior decoration and exterior protection, the Jotun logo can be found in more than 100 countries.
The company was founded in Sandefjord, Norway in 1926. The fonder Odd Gleditsch Sr. had witnessed whaling boats rusting away in the Antarctic. He quickly discovered the penguins; these caring creatures that overcame the toughest weather conditions. The penguin soon became Jotun’s official symbol and ambassador of the company’s values: Loyalty, Care, Respect, and Boldness.
Almost a century later, our mission remains the same: “Jotun Protects Property”. Jotun has grown into a multi-national company widely renown for high-quality paints and coatings. The Jotun Group consists of 67 companies and 40 production facilities across the world, and the more than 10.200 employees are united by a strong company culture, The Penguin Spirit.
