Position Summary: The Category Advisor is responsible for providing data-driven insights and strategic recommendations to support category growth and improve the overall customer experience at Walmart. This role serves as a trusted partner to Walmart merchants, leveraging shopper insights, category analytics, and industry best practices to influence assortment, shelving, pricing, and promotional strategies. The Category Advisor collaborates cross-functionally with internal sales, marketing, and supply chain teams to develop fact-based category plans that align with Walmart’s goals and policies. Success in this role requires strong analytical capabilities, deep understanding of Walmart systems and processes, and the ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable recommendations that drive mutual growth.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Be the go-to advisor for Walmart in the Sewing Machine category, guiding decisions across distribution, assortment, pricing, shelving, and promotions.
  • Lead the modular relay process, drawing planograms that are as clean and logical and stitch together a story at the shelf.
  • Analyze shopper behavior and performance trends to uncover underlying market and category dynamics, identifying key drivers and causal factors.
  • Must be able to provide fact-based recommendations across a variety of management levels resulting in buy-in and improvement in category performance.
  • Build shopper centric strategies that connect consumer needs to Walmart’s goals.
  • Use Scintilla and other data sources to uncover new growth opportunities.
  • Partner with Replenishment, Modular Planning, Space Planning, and internal Category Management to execute with precision.
  • Influence aisle level space, flow, and merchandising to improve the overall shopping experience.
  • Provide structured analysis, precise communication, and composed project leadership in dynamic environments where deadlines frequently shift.

You Bring (requirements, preferred skills):

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 3+ years Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) experience, including 3+ years in Category Management
  • Actual modular drawing experience (JDA/Blue Yonder) required
  • Scintilla Charter expertise required
  • Strong understanding of Walmart’s modular process.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, and Excel required; working knowledge of PowerPoint is required, working knowledge of Microsoft Access a plus.
  • Ability to analyze complex, unstructured data sets, extract meaningful insights, and communicate findings clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and persuasive communication skills to influence decision-making.
  • Experience with shopper insight platforms preferred
  • Expertise in collaborative teamwork and strategic, innovative problem-solving.

You will need to be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation, including:

  • Occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, meeting rooms, copier/printer etc as well as have the ability to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
  • Required to retrieve or reposition products like sewing machines weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Any additional physical requirements
