Job Summary
The Catastrophe Modeling Analyst is responsible for collecting, organizing, reviewing, cleansing, interpreting, analyzing, documenting, and distributing catastrophe modeling exposure data and results. This role supports per-account modeling by processing insured exposure schedules, ensuring data integrity, validating exposure information against supporting sources, and preparing data outputs for internal business users, reinsurers, and third-party catastrophe models such as RMS/AIR.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform review and profiling of property and casualty exposure data to assess completeness, consistency, and overall data quality.
- Validate exposure data against premium bordereaux, claims reported, and facultative placements to identify discrepancies, gaps, or data issues requiring resolution.
- Format and prepare exposure data for internal and external use, including outputs to reinsurers and outputs to catastrophe modeling platforms such as AIR.
- Process insured exposure schedules for per-account catastrophe modeling and ensure data integrity through queries, views, reports, and quality-control checks.
- Interpret data, analyze catastrophe model results, and provide ongoing reporting to support underwriting, actuarial, reinsurance, and business decision-making.
- Develop and implement data cleansing techniques and workflow strategies that improve efficiency, accuracy, and repeatability of exposure data processing.
- Acquire data from primary and secondary sources and maintain exposure databases, reporting files, and related data systems.
- Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in exposure and loss data sets.
- Filter, scrub, and evaluate data for performance indicators to locate and correct coding, mapping, or data-quality issues.
- Identify and define process improvement opportunities that enhance catastrophe modeling workflows, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
Required Skills
- Technical skills: Microsoft Excel, Modeling software (RMS, AIR, EQE)
- Good to have: SQL, MS Access
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Technical expertise or programming background with exposure to database management is a plus.
- Experience developing queries, writing reports, and presenting findings to business stakeholders.
- Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical tools or packages to analyze large datasets, particularly in Excel and Access.
- Knowledge of reporting packages such as Business Objects and databases such as SQL.
- Previous catastrophe modeling exposure preferred, including experience with RMS, AIR, or similar third-party catastrophe modeling software.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Education
BS in Geo Science, Meteorological Engineering, or related discipline
