Certification may be one of the best kept secrets in Engineering. Perceived as purely regulatory by some, this discipline in fact provides a complete overview of the aircraft development process, from the initial project application to the continued airworthiness of the in-service fleet.

As Cabin Systems Certification Engineer, you will join the Cabin and Cargo Certification Department (IIAAC). This dynamic team, composed of Certification Engineers, Certification Managers and Experts, currently based in India and Hamburg, forms part of the Certification Technical Directorate (CTD). This team provides technical expertise in the field of cabin and cargo certification. It contributes to Type Certification (TC), change to TC, operational approval, rulemaking and customer support activities.

Job scope (Tasks & accountabilities):

Within this department, the jobholder will join the Cabin Safety Certification Team, which covers the Cabin installations, layout modifications, seats, galley, placards certifications

The Jobholder exercises the legal privileges granted by EASA under Part 21 Subpart-J and act as Designated Airworthiness Engineer (DAE), ensuring that the minor and major changes to Type Certificate are delivered on time and on quality, and their approval received on time.  

In addition to leading mods, jobholder will be in charge of defining and negotiating the applicable certification basis, approving the mod classification, ensuring that the compliance demonstration is complete from an airworthiness perspective and performing the final airworthiness review.

The jobholder guarantees the Airworthiness of the design changes defined by Airbus, reporting airworthiness issue to a Chief Airworthiness Engineer.

Main problems to be solved in the position:

The requirements for the Designated Airworthiness Engineer (DAE) for the Change Approval process are:

  • Allocates the changes to him/herself in the Airbus tools (Aircam) as Airworthiness mod leader

  • Reviews the change dossier from the Design Office, classifies the change with regard to part 21 criteria.  Within Airbus tool (ACC2).

  • Appraises the design change, identifies the applicable requirements within Airbus tool (ICC) and verifies the compliance to applicable requirements provided by the Compliance Verification Engineer (CVE), if relevant.

  • Completes the Modification Approval Summary in order to approve the Change within ICC, as Designated Airworthiness Engineer (DAE) or communicate specific refusal to the CVE and Design responsible.

  • Record the Change approval in Airbus tool (ACC2).

  • The Engineer must master the Airworthiness and technical knowledge covering the various changes he/she will have to approve as DAE.

  • The changes cover most of Airbus commercial A/C programs requiring a knowledge on all concerned programs in term of airworthiness requirements but also design.

  • Drumbeat the A/C delivery schedules, indeed the changes must be approved in due time to support A/C deliveries. When the change is for installation on an in service A/C the schedule is driven by the Service Bulletin targets.

Means made available:

  • Access to all the tools: AirCAM, ACC2, ICC-ACP, NECTAR, CPH

  • Access to the Certification Technical Directorate adequate share folders and drives

  • Delegation process related documentation (and specific training).

Major end purposes:

Attain Signature Delegation (Check / Approve/ Refuse) in order to deliver Change approvals in line with Program’s expectations.

Required Domain Expertise (skills):

  • Graduate/Post Graduate Engineer (Aerospace Engineering / Mechanical / Electrical Engineering)

  • Several years of professional experience in design or in a cross-functional role within cabin and/or cargo systems.

  • The engineer has a proven experience on large aircraft and preferably on Airbus products. This experience is gained from areas such as maintenance, support or design activities.

  • Technically competent with the design principles used to the compliance data.

  • Knowledge on airworthiness Part-21 Subpart-D and on CS25/JAR25/FAR25 systems requirements is desirable.

These experiences will reinforce the back ground of the candidate, his/her capacity in understanding, integrated design and airworthiness of an aircraft.

  • The position has an Airworthiness function, the following requirements are a plus:

  • Engineer should be knowledgeable of the Airworthiness domain, on process, product and technical requirements and integrated aircraft design. In addition, should be able to question and to understand application of technical airworthiness requirements.

  • Should have a sound knowledge of Product Design.

  • Conversant with the roles and responsibilities of a Type Certificate holder operating under a Design Organization Approval granted by EASA.

Experience:

  •  7 - 12 years.
