Negotiates and purchases complex products and services according to demand plans and purchasing policies. Liaises with business and suppliers. Analyzes and evaluates bids, tenders and proposals. Negotiates prices, terms and conditions, and finalise contracts with suppliers. May lead a team.
PURPOSE
Plan and purchase all raw materials for the facility so finished goods can be produced timely for customers. This must be accomplished with the thought of keeping inventory dollars as low as possible without any material related shortages.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
- Purchase raw materials to meet the current forecasts for each product.
- Constantly monitor inventory levels to keep the inventory as low as possible while meeting the forecast and operational objectives.
- Analyze actual raw material usage compared to forecasted demand within the structure of vendor lead times.
- Maintain accurate and complete purchases, confirmation, tracking and vendor records.
- Work closely with planning and operations to understand the constant changes of both forecast and performance to be able to adjust orders to meet all the needs.
- Make projections for raw materials yearly and review with vendors.
- Monitor vendors that require vendor managed inventory. Set guidelines for their inventory levels.
- Maintain an efficient and accurate system for monitoring all open purchase orders.
- Source and obtain written quotes from vendors as required for new items by utilizing specifications supplied by maintenance and operating departments.
- Assist with cost estimates and special projects as needed.
- Develop and provide materials reports to management.
- Work with the inventory management team to ensure all deliveries satisfy the assigned purchase orders and report any back-ordered or missing products.
- Monitor and coordinate movement of inventories in any outside warehouses.
- Work with the controller to ensure the coding of inventory and purchase products are correct.
- Assist in reconciling PO’s and invoices with accounts payable.
- Assist independent auditors in auditing PO’s.
- Required to participate in Continuous Improvement program.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Comprehensive understanding of MS Excel, MS Word and industry standard purchase order software platforms.
- Strong communication skills
- Impeccable attention to detail
- Outstanding organization skills
- Clear understanding of the production planning function.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Ability to work well with a team
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree
5+ years experience of material purchasing in a manufacturing environment desired
